Mk-212 Duelist

Nydonian: X-212 Дуэлист

Propulsion

An Azarga T-5737/D turbine engine making 1,175 horsepower. The engine makes approximately 1.25 gallons per mile on the standard configuration, receiving diesel fuel from a 380 gallon tank. Different tracks can be swapped out depending on the environment, with sand, dirt, and rubberized road tracks all being issued when the need arises.

Weapons & Armament

120mm smooth bore gun equiped both bore evacuator. An autoloader feeds from an internal magazine of 47 rounds, wich are usually a mix of APFSDS, HE, and the unique Nydonian SPAB Rounds (Special Purpose Air Burst), with a heavy bias towards APFSDS and only a few SPAB. Additionally, a coaxial 8mm Nydonian machine gun is affixed to the right of the main gun.   The Mk-212/A model of the tank has a commander cupola mounted TOW missile launcher, with up to 10 missiles maximum capable of being stored internally. The Mk-212/B variant sees the left side cupola replaced with an electronically controlled 20mm cannon.

Armor and defense

Reactive paneling and internal spall liners come standard, with the spall liners coating nearly every inhabited inside area and explosive reactive armor panels being hidden under surface plates concentrated mainly on the front and sides of the hull and 360° of the turret. The orgininal reactive armor used in the 80s, while cutting edge when it was first invented over a decade ago, was outdated by the time it was used in the Duelist. This led to future versions of the tank recieving upgraded reactive armor packages.

Sensors

In addition to the usual front facing gunnery and commander optical instruments, several smaller cameras and placed on the sides and rear of the tank, allowing for much greater situational awarness. The tanks are also epuipped with thermal optics with up to 50x digital zoom and GPS location and targeting systems.

Additional & auxiliary systems

In late 2007 the Mk-212 was upgraded to the Mk-212/1, recieving upgraded optics and targeting computer, new and improved ERA, minor engine improvments, and a modification to the autoloader that allowed it to cycle the newer special Nydonian APFSDS rounds. After this upgrade, production of the nee variant was initiated, with the older versions either being retrofitted or sold to other countries.

Variants:

The Mk-212/1 saw the introduction of reactive armor blocks and panels attached to more surfaces of the tank in the early 2000s, most notably around the front and sides of the turret. It also implemented several smaller internal changes such as more comfortable and better articulating chairs as well as slight improvements to the auto loader and the replacement of older electronics with new fiber optic cables, updated screens and the like.   In 2016, the Mk-212/2 was put into production. The goal for this new variant was to keep the platform from becoming obsolete with the rise of far more advanced and modern technologies as well as the increasingly common and alarming use of cheap drones to disable multi-million dollar vehicles. To remedy these concerns, the new ITIES (Incoming Threat Interception and Elimination System, pronounced eye-ties) to the vehicle, as well as a electronic warfare module located in the empty space inside the vehicle left by the downsizing of the radio system after modernization. This module is capable of jamming signals effectively in a 150 yard radius. In the later 2020s, after lawsuits initiated when vehicle crews experienced elevated rates of cancers and these modules were removed from service and replaced with other means of drone protection, however many other countries still operate Mk-212/2s to this day.
