SPAB Rounds
Special Purpose Air Burst
These rounds were proposed in the early 2010s, but the push to pit substantial money into their development did not because great enough to accomplish the task until 2020 after a series of wargames held with various other allied nations brought Nydonia’s lackluster anti-air capabilities in the modern age to light. The program was fast tracked and these rounds were engineered and began production in just under a year, with the contract being secured by Tryebuchyet Zevsgiin Dizain, being issued to vehicle crews in early 2022.
Utility
SPAB rounds, which cannot be used in shells smaller than 30mm due to internal complexities, are equipped with sensors that allow the shells to detonate when in appropriate proximity to their target. Shaped explosive charges within propel angular shrapnel outwards in a cone, designed to tear their target to pieces. While designed to target helicopters, there are recorded instances of these rounds being used effectivly agaisnt jets and also as a form of canister shot, the fuse being manually reset to detonate almost immediatly after leaving the barrel.
