O.k. this is a bit off putting. We walk, and the cold seems to have hit Zahra and Shirin badly. They just passed out and will not wake. I am able to turn one of the tents into a stretcher to carry Shirin while Catalina carries Zahra. Catalina finds where a stream is and we finally make camp. While there nothing major happens in the evening and so a nice restful sleep until the morning. In the morning hours I wake to the sounds of ghostly voices around us, and Catalina and Nasrin hear them too but don’t seemed worried. I think this unholy cold air has them mentally off.
When we finally get to the cause of the smoke we can see a small hamlet and of course almost no one speaks a language we do. They all speak Lingua. I am able to barely get understanding enough to go see a small item blacksmith, Finn, in town and he speaks Sproken. Oh thank the good lords that be, he lets me sit against his forge and warm up. This is completely worth having to translate for these women who do not care for my presence among them. We are able to trade mystical spell skills for a night using one of his guest bedroom. So after talking to Finn we go to find out if anyone else has seem Yandalis come through here.
The first place we go to is some small building with a hoe on the sign. This is suppose to mean that the person here is a priest of some farm god or for the cult of the god of farming or some not so famous farmer himself. But the person seems nice and lets us know that the Lord of this place, Finley’s Stop, is very much about himself and only will speak to you if you speak Lingua. He also lets us know that the elf we are looking for went South from here down the road. After that we sorta split up and entertain ourselves while we wait for night fall.
Once it’s dark, I let the women have their bedroom and I just sleep on a bedroll in the main room. There is no way I can sleep in a room with all these women. I know it would cause there reputations to be tarnished and I would be thought of as well in a negative light. Also, Catalina and Nasrin sneak in Zahra and Shirin over the evening and get them some food and water.
Also, I learned here that animals talk. Not just Sagir but all animals can speak. If that is the case then how can any of these people be willing to eat a creature that can communicate with them. That is no better than cannibalism. The thought of that just makes me nauseous enough that I can barely hold down food. I think from here out I will just eat the cheese, nuts, and berries, while Sagir gets all the meat. To eat another talking creature is barbaric and inhumane. Though these women have no second thought about it showing they all died with little to no empathy for other people.
As we head south that morning Catalina I think is trying to see how resigned I am to this body maybe. She knows I do not like the cold and so when asked I mention it but otherwise am staying to myself. She persists to ask me what’s wrong and why am I so upset or unhappy. I just tell her its cold. Her response is to tell me to stop whining and complaining. She can help me no longer be cold by lighting me on fire. This goes to prove she is a scary person and so likely made insane from the cold weather and air, or is working for an actual death power or goddess instead of the old looking man/woman steward of Perago.
I then let them all pass ahead of me so I no longer have a killer plotting my death behind me Rask stops them and Catalina pulls out a bow and fires into someone hiding in the trees. Catalina and Nasrin then start shooting arrows and Nasrin breathes out lightning bolts about a quarter as impressive as a Djinn could summon, but enough to remove a person’s leg to start. As one gets near her as she moves to attack an archer I run up and intercept him. I know this will not end well as I have no armor to protect me in a combat. So after I gut deeply into his leg he is able to a few seconds later return the swing and I dodge it only to have one of the archers pierce my main artery with an arrow and my leg will no longer support me. I desperately then try to move back behind range. The fist time I cast the spell nothing works the second time it finally sends me out of range and I can temporarily stop the bleeding.
Catalina then runs over, with an annoyed expression on her face likely at me moving I guess, to where I am. I see her pull out some scrap piece of leather and cast a spell at me. I wince for a second knowing she is likely to kill me off, which at this moment might not be a bad thing as I would just go to Perago and be warm and away from this place. The only reason I hope I am wrong there is because Sagir is badly bruised still and I do not trust these people to tend to her without killing and eating her. Luckily it seems the annoyance is for me causing Catalina to “waste” her spell on my leg.
We try to talk to them but like everything else here it ends up bad. The one person who can only speak broken Idioma. We are able to make a deal that if we heal the leg of the person who Nasrin burned off then they will help us find Yandali. It takes about an hour and nothing then when these women cast a spell to heal the man they just torture him. So I also quickly then cast a spell. I ask for Magic to give me a sign on which direction is best to get us closest to Yondali. I know magic answered since it let me call out a far distance and then echoed and these bandits all shook with signs of understanding what Magic said to them. I ask where is she, and get back from them blank looks, words, and signs of I don’t know.
This just proves this place is cursed and travel here is a waste of time. I tell these women I am going south until I can walk no more in a day. I look at the bandits and say I am not going after you just south on the road, MOVE. I just keep walking. While I walk I make certain to practice my other spells too. So I randomly at times will cast a small Mystic Feeling spell to look for active magic if any around and then one to bleed off the spell. I keep going until I physically can walk no more. I ignore the the comments from behind where I think I heard something about a camp, look see none and keep walking. I don’t want Sagir to feel too tired and sore so I will carry her as well until late into the night and am unable to really move much further. Then I get out bedrolls and my tent. After that I sleep some hoping I do not get sick like the other women. I do hope this means the women are too tired to try and do some evil at me, while I sleep, at well like the thread of burning me alive.
