Session 7

by Amir (Emir)

Well Yondali called us back after about a week of training and prep. She mentioned we have to change our names since some human named Manius is coming and we can’t look exactly the same now or called the same. Since we are claiming lines back to the Empire in Domenstros they want to use more imperial names. So now I have to learn I am traveling with Cynica, Camilla “Cami”, and the old elf still has a name I cannot pronounce but is something like Britloc or Rhytlocke. Why do old elves have to always have names with sound combinations that no one ever uses or know? Also, from what he says the old male elf is or was some noble family person. After this Yondali teaches everyone and me how to contact her in Perago. Then explains our groups goals: explore the area, build up a positive reputation for ourselves, then find a patron in Na’Lainda or some place like that.
She then sends us to Aos in late fall in a giant plains area where there are barely any trees. The place looks like a giant green grass ocean with only small patches of a random tree, like eddies in the water. As I fly up to see a better view and location I can tell the 2 elves are arguing over something. As I get back to the ground I hear they are both arguing over wanting to go south and find a city vs. find the closest city south of us on the trade route. So, they are arguing over wanting to do the exact same thing. I guess old elves are weird conversationalists. I might just need to learn more about the way elves communicate. I figured they would talk like they do to other races but I guess not due to how long they live.

So we travel a while and get to a camping location. Ignacio, I mean Cynica, claims he can safely create a ward to protect us. And as he sets up his spell I start to also miss home and use my magic as well. I make a gentle ocean breeze appear and I loss a small bit of magical control, so I utilize a slight bit more magical power and realize the spell will last longer than I planned. Cynica then cast his fire ward spell but forgot that it needed to last maybe. So as soon as he cast it the wards went off. I think this is because I spoke ill of 3 people without them there and the Efreeti heard and messed up Cynica’s fire spell to teach me not to speak ill of people when not able to defend themselves. This is why I prefer the Djinn and Madrid even if they do fight sometimes. Then Cami started to beat the flames with a bedroll. I first tried to neutralize the spell, but it was already over and just natural fire. Since there is no water I started to teleport dirt in a wide scoop around the campsite inside the ring to place on top of the flames to smother it. While I did that the old elf Rhyt changed into a badger and started to burrow down, but he kept getting burned. As we were putting out the flames I had Sagir move into the hole I was making for her safety and the other animals did the same. After we got the flames out I stayed awake long enough to eat some of the food Cami made, only to get on my bedroll and then fall asleep, I could not even get the energy to set up my tent, so glad it did not rain.

While on watch that night I saw a lizard sitting on the dirt wall watching me. I think he had to come into camp and Cami and the elf had to be talking about him before as I started to have lizard dreams just before I woke up. So while there and waiting I have a short conversation. I gave him some of the extra jerky I had and in trade he let me know how far south of us the closest people lived. Then when false dawn started I just started to make some porridge for everyone with dates and figs to sweeten it.

So about early afternoon we make it to a trading post called Duran’s Outpost. Here the tavernkeep and owner lets us get 4 rooms to stay in and has his own little shop to buy and trade items with. Cami seems really interested in a brown robe and asks if I can sew trim on for her. I guess is not too hard since she had good notes and descriptions of what she needed. Then we discussed possibly fixing the tent if they have enough fabric or canvas to patch it. While stitching the robe we met this group of elemental folk and a saynor lead by an Aros named Sanji. We agreed to meet that evening to learn gambling and socialize.

So that evening I sit and watch to try and learn how these people talk and interact. Cami gets friendly while they gamble, game is Queen’s Ante, and learn about the area and how many bandit groups (about 4 or so) are there between here and Na'Lainda. Then she gets a bottle and leaves the room for some reason. I guess old female elves tire after walking so much. Then we trade songs and such. I start with a dance and song performance of “Roll the Old Chariott” and after that Sanji sang some song from Na’Lainda. Then 3 out of 6 humans perform some sort of song from the area. After that I perform the “Djanni’s Rise” and I think I got everyone’s attention when I performed that song and sword dance. Sanji then performed one other song. After that the other 3 got up and did some drunken joke impression of what I did and after that Sanji decided that song is a good ending for this. When that happened I just get up and decided to head to my room and decide I need to discuss this with Cami since she understands people better than me.
