So today is the day I get to go out for a major sailing exercise and be part of the crew. So, as we get going I thought I noticed a whip in the breeze blowing contrary to the rest when I was stationed in the Crow’s Nest, only later did I learn it means an unfortunate docking is to happen soon on the ship. I tried to put it in the past and just went to work since no one else saw it and thought it was just me being a fuck up. That seems the norm as noting bad happened.
Then, we finally arrive in port. I get to finally work independently so I can show how well of a teacher Javid is and prove the year and half he taught me how to defend the crew, ship, and cargo is not a waste. I get to prep the anchor bend knots, so we can set anchor once the boat is moored. Unfortunately, like normal I mess it up, and there are 2 women I think looking at me mess up as well, well one is a Newan so hard to determine from a distance. They seem to be talking about how badly I messed up as one of them even points it out from the peer. Then Javid calls me to explain how to do it and have me try to do it correctly. I am so embarrassed I know I look red faced and my hands are shaking. So now he must stop from leaving the ship and have some merchant dwarf on board instead of meeting in town. Well after interrupting the start of the meeting, I get to fuck up and shame Javid in-front of her with me still not able to get it. I understand why he would send me to practice, as I bet I will be expelled from this apprenticeship now too once I get home. Why must I always fail at these things? At least when I ask Magic to make it so people do not pay me attention it works, with them feeling more interested in food than me. After about 2 minutes and me finally calm enough to not shake there is the sound of water and I see red for a split second.
The next thing that I notice as I try to fly out of the red tide with a breeze, though none is there, is a mural of some town and even one that has magical creatures like mine. I then notice I am in brown pants and nothing else, so completely different clothes. Somehow, I was teleported to a different land or some house with poor ventilation. Then, there is the row of booths and the fairly friendly but bored elf. He informs me I get the option to sit and make him and everyone else wait or I can sign a contract to work which I can’t be fired from. He informs me that I’m dead. I also ask if that means I can send a message to let my parents know I am o.k. even in death but not able. I ask if I can still get needles and yard so I can continue making my blankets and find a way to give it to Sagir from here. When the elf returns from asking his boss I get told no. I steady myself on the outside so he does not see how pathetic of a success I am, and internally give a sorrowful silent prayer that I’m sorry I won’t be able to send any more blankets in memory of Sagir or do more to make certain she was not forgotten, even in her short life. So, to stay strong and not cry over how my failure with Javid got him, his crew, and I killed along with no longer able to have a running memory for Sagir, I just sign the contract and walk away towards the door. When no one looks I rub the water from my eyes and prepare to find out I likely will fail out of this job and be stuck in a booth forever, it seems to be where my life led me.
As soon as I touch the door I am standing in a large room with some scary looking saynor woman. Then not more than 15 seconds later the 2 women who pointed and discussed how I failed Javid. Then the scary woman asked me to be her mate. How am I supposed to do that? I mean we are not anything close to each other. Besides it would be wrong to even think about that since there has been no formal courting. I mean, you should want to be with a wife forever until death parts the two, so not there. Also, I just shied off so I would not offend her as she seems like to make her mad would get me hurt.
Then the next thing I know there is some old elf woman that goes by the name Peraga Minor talking to clarify deals but not knowing how to open one. She then says for signing a contract we must find some cleric and clear out an undead forest thing. Also, after washing hands she explains stuff and about rules of the contract after washing hands and starting properly. Then it hit that she mentioned we can find dead here, just beyond the door. So while the scary woman and the 2 that pointed at me while I messed up discuss points that likely have been made before I decide to go.
On the other side there is a giant fountain and town square. There seems to be so many people I am confused on where to go. Then a sweet Aros man named Netske is willing to show me where places are, and I just have to give him a single coin. He asks what all I need, and I mention, clothes, find a dead loved one, and supplies for being in a cold forest. So first he takes me to a place called Earthen Needle. Here I get to buy some higher quality travelling clothes and boots for being in cold places like the forests we are to go to. After getting clothes Netske leads me to a Saynor that loves to accessories the ends of his horns with rings and caps. The guy’s name is Genroute and he runs The Seeking Arrow. After talking down to me, like all my previous instructors but Javid, he proves he can’t find my Sagir and is not nearly as useful as he claims. So Netske again leads me to The Houndskeeper and seems to be interested in going in with me. I again say no thanks, but sorta wonder now if he is ever able to go in these stores unless leading a person through. Maybe I should let him lead me through the general store, The Quarter, across the way once done.
Now at the Houndskeeper there seems to be 2 different areas, one mostly for canine or lupine maybe? There is a lot of toy bone patterned stuff. The other side has a human merchant named Selene, who seems helpful. She even checks to see where my best friend might be. After a few minutes, I hope it is a few minutes and not hours like it feels, she comes out with an owlbear that looks like Sagir, and I know it has to be Sagir. As she circles I hope she is not mad that all I could do is do a ritual memorial blanket, and then she lunges at me. As she jumps and knocks me back I just turn and roll as I hold her, and we drift joyously down together. I’m so glad she is o.k. with her time and she got all my blankets. This is the best thing to ever happen since I died! And it likely will not be topped. Now that I have my best friend and little sister with me I am ready to go shopping and for her protection turn some of the blankets into armor for her as well.
Finally, we then go into the Grand Quarter. After everyone talks to Netske and some other person with a similar symbol we go and spend our coin along with spend time in the city. I think we have about another 6 or 7 hours until this Peraga minor calls us to work. I hope she knows I will not leave my Sagir behind. I think I should tell Netske if he wants to follow and guide me to some good armor and weapons in the store I should let him. As everyone else heads out I think I will ask for his help in finding good items and learn more about him. I bet he would make a great guide throughout this city until I learn where everything is and where to store items and things until I need it.
