Unitas Consortium

“Lust not after an illusion. What is the strength of humanity? To be content; to be stable and secure; to be grounded in ourselves. There is nothing more human than to master the land, to raise our homes, and to perpetuate our civilization as one people."
— Elizabeth Omundo, First Chief Commanding Officer of Unitas Consortium

At the heart of the modern concept of Hegemony philosophy lies Unitas Consortium. This private enterprise was created in 401 Unitary Time to colonize newly discovered worlds of the second phase of the 4Gen expansion, against opposition from a cooperative of Expansionists groups that originally connected both 1Gen Spheres. From this arose GuardCorps, the military division of the Consortium, and since then more than three thousand other contractors and operators of varying size and location. Through contractual relationships, Unitas Consortium runs an empire of star systems of greater or lesser autonomy, each dependent upon its Syndicated Prefecture status to receive protection, supplies, and colonization expertise.

Some of the oldest Prefectures have amassed enough wealth and status to be considered pseudo-independent, such as the four worlds of the Zetetic Tendency, or the Epistatic Phrourarchy, which has recently gained unilateral control of the Gorgon Array. GuardCorps high command and the Unitas board keep the greatest Prefectures under close watch.

The main lever of Unitas power is territory and financial control. With a single internal market system and streamlined surface colonization technologies and expertise, Unitas has been able to follow the discovery of new heliospheres on the heels of People's Galactic explorers, and in recent centuries has even discovered a few before them. Like any large institution, Unitas as a whole is slow to react to developments but implacable once it can amass momentum and power. It can bring overwhelming economic and military might to bear on many problems, but this usually takes years.
