Ospiron III
Ospiron III is a planet in the Sancyrus heliosphere known for being hostile to colonization and especially difficult to terraform. Acid rain regularly pelts its surface, its above-ground temperatures range from freezing to sub-zero, and the abundance of harsh solar radiation can kill an unprotected human in less than an hour.
However, Ospiron III’s proximity to a number of other colonized worlds made it an ideal disposal site for dangerous weapons and outdated military ships after a mutual disarmament pact was signed with Ospiron Prime’s former rivals. Over a half-century, cargo haulers deposited the wrecks of starships and piles of unstable munitions across the planet’s surface.
Ospiron III eventually caught the interest of Kentaro Upcycling, a salvaging company with a history of buying stolen starships and dealing in surplus weapons of dubious provenance. Kentaro deployed a walking factory called the ‘Baga Yaga’ to scour Ospiron III for salvageable material and intact munitions. with a crew of roughly 120 participating in the operation.
Weeks after arriving on the planet, the crew of the Baba Yaga lost contact with their Kentaro handlers when the corporate headquarters was raided, leaving the crew to fend for themselves. In the years that followed, the Baba Yaga recovered enough exotic weaponry to compete with the region’s most dangerous militaries and decided to set up their own testing grounds and laboratories to reverse-engineer the salvaged weapons.
After making contact with a passing pirate fleet, the crew of the Baba Yaga have become recognized as developers of some of the most volatile, destructive, and advanced tech available on the black market. However, this newfound fame attracted the attention of a wide variety of militias, criminal organizations, and planetary governments, who have launched numerous raids against Ospiron III to either seize or destroy its facilities. Failed attempts at orbital bombardment have forced these factions to land ground forces, but any landing force must operate on strict timetables to avoid succumbing to the planet’s hostile environment.
