Outer Spheres Shipping Union
The Outer Spheres Shipping Union (OSSU) is a constitutional body operating across the heliospheres of Pentahelios array. Its stated aim is to preserve the rights and freedoms of its signatories, among whom are numbered shipping lines, teamster guilds, piloting associations and unions, mining and surveying families and companies, and many other institutions based in and around the extraction and shipment of resources in the array.
The OSSU was founded shortly after Juno was discovered, in direct response to an influx of Interhelios personnel. Since then Juno has been an economic, political, and occasionally physical battleground between the two organizations. Each has drawn considerable resources from the other in this tug-of-war, allowing other interests to gain firmer hold in the other heliospheres of Pentahelios: several Prefectures of Ridgeway Mining in Pinnacle, Obguago Dynasty in Astrapelago, Expansionists in Periphery and in Stars Edge. Of late the struggle has moved to control of the starlanes in Astrapelago, which acts as a hub for the whole array.
As a relatively new signatory to the People's Galactic, the OSSU has limited access to Pact support, but following the Saber Ridge Incident this has dramatically increased, both in local recruitment and assistance from outside the array. At present OSSU is associated with two major blockades in the Astrapelago system, although direct control of these efforts has been publicly denied by current Chief Steward Tabari El-Shanawee.
