Parala was once a pirate haven. Built within a hollowed-out asteroid orbiting YN-339, it was neighbor to Astronius with a curious peace. It's generally accepted now that the pirates of Parala had an agreement with Astronian governments: they'd stay out of the other's way, provided neither overstepped agreed-upon boundaries.
The pirate bay changed leaders regularly. Many used the position to enrich themselves, and inevitably someone would decide it should be them, instead. Eventually the pirate known only as Alice claimed the asteroid for herself and set toward more long-term goals than simply lining her pockets.
What few rules Parala had under Alice's control were enforced with swift and often brutal justice. Anyone who broke the station-wide parlay would often be spaced, with or without a vacsuit or means to return. The Syndicate was known for making frequent visits for various dealings and meetings. It's also rumored several Protectorate officials were spotted there, sometimes for emergency repairs, and other times for less reportable reasons.
Parala's Demise
Many knew Parala's days as a hub of piracy were limited, depending on how the nearby sun's expansion interfered with the asteroid's life support systems. Yet its ultimate demise was unrelated to the universe's designs. Starting in 3207, alleged poisonings became more frequent, with no consensus on culprit. Even when a suspect was killed or business closed, the poisonings would continue. By 3208, many believed the source to be a spa and massage parlor that offered experience-enhancing drugs with their packages. Later that year, the Emerald Legion took over the asteroid by overwhelming force. Many of the resident pirates were killed, but Alice and her partner Maria were taken captive. After the Battle for Talmar, a contingency of Legionnaires remained stationed on Parala, feeding information to other clusters hiding across the sector. It was 3210 by the time the Protectorate had the ability to secure the asteroid. They arrived to find a ghost town littered with dead Legionnaires, killed months ago and many with wounds looked to be made by claws. Most believe this was Alice, returning with a vengeance, but it's unknown why she then left instead of reclaiming the throne. To this day, Parala remains vacant. A tombstone to the death of piracy in the region, to the relief of the merchants and other honest travelers of the region.Timeline
