By the time the Op family moved to their shelter in the Ralenlos Mountains, Obla had been an apprentice maintainer for three years. It is unknown whether he finished his apprenticeship before the conclusion of the Final War.

As an apprentice maintainer, he was employed at the University of Kiv Mingumisel along with his mentor.
Mental Trauma
In 1 NZR, Guztinoma 28, several Kef-Endu were sent to assassinate a high-ranking Rilanga politician who was giving an invited talk in the university's main auditorium. The building was destroyed by multiple explosions, several others were damaged, and casualties were high.
While Obla was on the other side of the campus at that time, he was directly confronted with the extent of the destruction when the university was closed down so that the damaged structures could be either stabilized or safely collapsed.
However, as a side effect, the bombing also separated him from his lover. On the one hand they could no longer meet at the university, and meeting elsewhere was risky because Etru's family was unlikely to approve of their relationship. On the other hand, the attack on the university convinced her family that their home town was no longer safe and led to their decision to hide away in a shelter in the mountains.
