Nuun Mountains

Forming the southeastern border of the Carboth Desert, the rounded, weather beaten peaks of the Nuun Mountains run from the Bay of Tears to Brinton Ridge. With the exception of their pine filled western slops along the strip of hills and small mountains that run between the bay and the Imperial River, they are an arid and desolate highlands. Residents include the usual hares and marmots and goats that seem to scratch out a living at elevations across Tarien no matter how sparse the vegetation. With them come the foxes and hunting cats that make their homes amongst the rocks. Local Dharjans warn against taking to much shade in the lee of these mountains as greater threats - massive lion-legged eagles - hunt anything that grazes from the skies.

Scatted amongst the rocks and dust, those travelers foolish enough to travel to these mountains can still find the odd foundation to a cabin or have collapsed mine entrance, the remnants of a short gold rush during the Second Century. The occasional prospector may wandered into the Nuun, but even the wisest Khadra can tell you that nothing has been found here in centuries and that an explorer is more likely to find the lost lair of Strax in the Nuun than to find a new vein of gold.
