Brinton Ridge

Running east from the Nuun Mountains, the Britton Ridge marks the southern border of the Darien Plain. Like the Balaan Mountains to the west, the rises of this ridge are steep sided and flat topped, littered with rocks, fast growing bell-shaped pines, and bushes littered with tubular red flowers and viscous thorns. While the windswept northern and southern slopes much the same vegetation as the ridge line, teak, mango, plum trees cling its broad eastern slopes, where it abuts the Jungles of Thallox.

Here long eared hares, pot bellied marmots, and sure footed goats graze on the tough grasses that grow in wide flat patches between the fields of boulders. Preyed upon by foxes, mountain cats and eagles, these high grassland denizens band together in large colonies for protection. Both predators and prey typically remain active only in the day, seeking shelter amongst the rocks at night when, according the Kari-Zaro in nearby Pensicoit, far more dangerous and unnatural predators roam.

Atop Brinton Ridge

No matter where one stands on the Ridge, the Dark Mountain dominating the view. Climbing hundreds of paces above the plateau itself, this long dormant volcanic is a blight of dark rock, shrouded in mist, toward its eastern end. Steeped in mystery, even the most natural of the Ridge’s residents avoid its slopes.
