River Thallox
The River Thallox runs from the southeastern spoke of the Brinton Ridge, just past the ominous smoldering Dark Mountain in hurry, its sulfur-rich waters blackened by some other chemical at its source. As it hits the basin of the jungles that bear its name, it flattens, becoming wide, and placid, its dark hue softened by the silt and mud along its course. Here, beneath the canopy of river figs and mangroves, little light makes its way to banks crowded with liana vines and fan palms. Beds of reeds or floating lilies fill shallower regions of river, the perfect home for a variety of fishes, frogs, and waterfowl.
With two of the largest Kari-Zaro villages along its course - Pensicoit, where worship of the great mother blurs with that of the great bear to the heart of the mysterious, silvery skinned peoples' civilization, it sees plenty of boat traffic. With canoes dug out of the kapok trees that litter the jungles, the villages trade foodstuff, weapons, and news up and down its length. In the past centuries the presence of Fort Bentington at its mouth have added goods made of iron to those that are carried. Those that travel, however, do so warily as water dragons, hippos, and giant snakes all have reputations for attacking anything that moves through their domain.
