Birthright Spirits
Birthright spirits are entities unique to the world of Shavirouk. Any person born into a nation of Shavirouk, with the exception of the nation of Martial, will be immediately bonded to a Birthright Spirit. These spirits grant a creature innate access to the magic of the world, especially that of their associated type. This often comes in the form of simple magics that begin to develop during adolescence or early adulthood and often develop in such a way that helps with roles or skills that the individual already has. For example, a person from Kubrajad might gain the Mage Hand and Produce Flame cantrips if they have a more peaceful lifestyle, where as someone who must defend themselves often or reguarly finds themself in dangerous situations may instead gain the Acid Splash and Sword Burst cantrips.
While not initially sentient, the spirits have the ability to gain cognitive skill and sentience over time. Until that point, most birthright spirits start out as conscious spirits instead. As a person grows, the spirit can grow stronger within them.
A baby gains their birthright spirit and person-hood when they take their first breath. Before this, most infants of a race look relatively similar, only beginning to take on the traits of their own subspecies during the first few weeks of life.

Birthright Spirits and Subspecies
Many species or races of people in Shavirouk have various forms to them. For example, drow, high, and wood elves. If a person is born in the country to which their mother's birthright spirit belongs, then this can cause the individual's subspecies to be different than that of their parent. While this does not effect all species, nor does it occur in every country for every species, it is still a factor that many parents may take into consideration when preparing to give birth in places away from their homeland.A baby gains their birthright spirit and person-hood when they take their first breath. Before this, most infants of a race look relatively similar, only beginning to take on the traits of their own subspecies during the first few weeks of life.
