Textile Arts
The Textile Arts are an old and varied tradition in Palimpsest. The book Fabric of Time by Professor Kush Ravenswood examines them from an archeological perspective, skirting the line of calling into question Tailorite myths that claim the arts were discovered by acolytes of the Tailor (a comparatively new constellation). Some Tailorites believe that, while lower societies may have had Textile Arts, they didn't understand Textile Arts.
Manufacturing
As an isolated city, where the citizens are loathe to leave the protection of the walls, Palimpsest is poorly suited to growing vast fields of crops. However, particularly with the aid of Elemental magic, some crops can be grown within the city itself. Aside from food (the most in-demand use for farming technology), some farmland is dedicated to textile crops, which can then be harvested and prepared into fabric. Most commoners wear clothing made from durable Cotton or Flax, the growing and manufacturing of which is overseen by the Carterhold Family.
More expensive fabrics are available for the richer inhabitants. Rare Silkworm farms provide the Nobility and rich commoners with the smoothest silk at marked up price. Some fabrics are imported from other planes, which rack up hefty Interplanar Trade Fees. And the softest and most delicate of all is Roseflax, the cherished plant of the Tailor, which is only available to the wealthiest individuals.
