Cobbler Bakerstreet

Vizier Cobbler Bakerstreet, First of his Name

Highly suspicious and mistrusting of everyone, beyond the point of paranoia, Vizier Cobbler Bakerstreet runs the House of Bakerstreet alone, without a Viziera. In charge of investigations at the Noble Court as well as the lawkeeping further down in the city, the Vizier is powerful and dangerous enough that his position is secure even without a wife to schmooze at Court on the family's behalf.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

1262
Cobbler Bakerstreet was born in the upper slums of the Poor Commoner District (i.e. where the poorest Humans live), to Sherrinford and Violet Bakerstreet.
1268 (possibly early 1269)
The Bakerstreet Family ascended to the layer with the offices of the Honourable Company.
Givesday, Beggarmoon, 1285
The Lord Captain Emissary selected Cobbler Bakerstreet and his unknown wife to become the fourth Human family at the Noble Court, where they would work as the Court Investigators and manage the city's law enforcement under the constellation of the Beggar Man.
Scrapday, Thiefmoon, 1291
The last time Cobbler cried was probably something to do with his wife, Irene Bakerstreet. According to Guinevera Dargent, the then-Viziera was found to be dabbling in the forbidden arts "to a degree that required quite swift and extreme correction". The stalwartness with which Cobbler took sides against Irene is one of the reasons that Lord Captain Emissary places so much trust towards Cobbler, however the incident seems to have taken its toll on the Vizier. It is likely this was when he seriously took up drinking.
1294
Having become an alcoholic, Cobbler gave up drinking.
Copperday, Tailormoon, 1313
Cobbler's daughter, Katiba Wiggin Bakerstreet, was murdered by Vizier Richard Dargent.

Personality Characteristics

Vices & Personality flaws

Substence Abuse: As a lapsed alcoholic, Cobbler stopped drinking Ale in 1294, substituting it for strong Dwarven Coffee, the darker the better. The chemicals in the coffee mean that Cobbler hasn't actually slept in years, which might go some way towards explaining his paranoia and ill-humour. In the night, he can sometimes be found meditating at his desk (the closest to sleep he ever gets), staring at a case file or ruminating over a puzzle.

Social

Family Ties

Irene Bakerstreet: No Viziera is listed in the Noble Peerage, the magical book owned by each member of the Nobility to keep track of the sixteen great Noble Houses and their members. An out-of-game interview seems to suggest she was banished or executed in a Whisper Vote in 1291, that she betrayed Cobbler in some major way, and that she smelled of incense and tasted of coffee and cloves.

Religious Views

Although a follower of the Beggar Man, Cobbler has a pessimist's view of much of theology and seems to be more fixated on the black star, Alnar, where all the sinners are said to go, than the Garden. This makes sense considering his line of work, although it could also be partly influenced by his unresolved trauma around whatever happened with his wife.
