Scalados

Scalados is the name for the territory of the Kingdom of Scalados, and the homeland of the elves. It is bordered to the west by the Blue Mountains, to the east by the Saunfinia Sea, and to the south by the Aegirrán Sea. Its northern border is nebulous, with some signficant amount of mountainous "no-mans-land" territory separating it from the Elemental Plane of Earth to the north.

Geography

Scalados is, for the most part, lush and heavily forested. The Eldar Wood dominates the southern and central portions of its territory. Its midlands alternate between lush farmlands and more densely wooded areas. The mideastern coasts of Scalados are known as the Oddwaters. The north-central portion of Scalados is known as the Wailë-Lands, a harsh sub-tundra prairie biome where few creatures find purchase. North of the Wailë-Lands, but south of the mountains of the North, is a thin strip of arable land in the taiga that currently contains the town of Cúarta and once held the grand city of Old Bjália. Bjália's kinship with nearby Draxhaven and its dragons of the Golden Guard once made the area temperate and pleasant to inhabit, but ever since the death of Bastien in the Siege of Bjália, the area has remained cold year-round and almost uninhabitably harsh during the fall and winter months.

History

Age of Audacity legends position Scalados as a land given almost entirely to various beasts and monsters. While Fricka created and placed the sentient races in the kinder hills and valleys of mid-eastern Belcantas, the trek towards Scalados's dark forests was one reserved only for the very bravest.   It is notable, then, that all four tribes spoken of in the Uplifting of the Elves make their initial homes in Scaladosian territory. The high elves originated in the Blue Mountains' northeastern highlands, the sun elves were found along the beaches of the Oddwaters, the moon elves lived along the cliffs just west of the modern-day Sister Cities, and the wood elves are the early denizens of the Eldar Wood. These four tribes warred throughout most of the remaining Age of Audacity, until the unification of the wood elven and high elven tribes by King Arapo I of the Eldar Wood, today recognized as the first Eldatar. Arepo and his sons largely drove sun elven and moon elven cultures out of modern-day Scalados, creating the divide between the "Twin Kinships."   The Prayer of Saint Scala is said to have ushered in the Age of Integrity single-handedly. Until her death, Queen Scala I ruled over Scalados as a prosperous, unified kingdom.
