Aegirrán Sea

The Aegirrán Sea, sometimes known as the Sapphire Sea, is the main body of water in which the islands of the Aquatic Kingdoms lie. It is bordered to the north, west, and southwest by the continent of Belcantas, and to the east by the Saunfinia Sea. The boundary between the Aegirrán Sea and the Saunfinia Sea is typically defined by sages as a straight line that stretches due south of the easternmost harbors of Enchalmida, as all major islands of the Aquatic Kingdoms lie to the west of this line.

Fauna & Flora

Though its surface and accessible depths are filled with abundant fish and flourishing coral reef ecosystems, the deepest trenches of the Aegirrán Sea contain monsters such as the kraken, the dragon turtle, and the froghemoth.

Natural Resources

The abundance of the Aegirrán Sea is vital to the sustained prosperity of the civilizations around it. Plentiful schools of easily caught fish like cod and salmon have long sustained the cities and towns of the Liberty Coast; in places where smaller, bonier coldwater fish dominate, the whales and seabirds that feed off them are vital resources to Urbana al-Svara and Cape Hildegard. Furthermore, the coral reefs of the Rose Reefs are so healthy and strong that they were grown by druids into the main framework of the city of Urbana al-Sona.

History

The Aegirrán Sea is so named for the husband-and-wife duo of Aegir and Rán, god of primal depths and goddess of exploration within the Erden Dynasty. This name, which originated from the beach-dwarves of Filia, became the common official name of the body of water in the Aquatic Kingdoms, Dreibach, and Scalados following the War of Great Sorrow.
