As any good chef should do, I keep some frostshrooms in my food storage. My food stays fresh longer unlike Beliris food poisoning restaurant next door. — Kalar Vestis, Golandon chef.
In areas with high amounts of
Falls magic it is possible to find wildlife or plants affected by it. For animals this can lead to special species such as the
Ethetina. Plants and fungi affected by this magic are on the other hand referred to as Mage Plants in general. It is a bit of a misnomer given that most of them are fungi.
Properties
Great variety
Mage plants can be found in many shapes and sizes. In general any plant that is somewhat suited to grow near certain
Falls locations can eventually adapt and become a mage plant. As most Falls are found below the surface the most common mage plants are fungi who prefer to grow in that environment.
But because certain types of Falls, such as Leaf Falls, are more common on the surface there are also non fungi mage plants.
Adaptation
Any plantlife affected by Falls will take on certain aspects of that Fall's magic. The most commonly known of these mage plants is the
Fireshroom which has even become the main fuel source of many nation. The theory is that these mushroom originated from a large concentration of Ember Falls and have since spread further and further in the
Lower Realms.
The fireshrooms are a great at producing heat and are even usefull for ingredients in
Fire Magic. Plants affected by
Air Magic on the other hand, such as those found in the
Crystal Valley, are often seeminly gravity defying and have elctrical properties.

Location
The properties of mage plants are determined by the type of Fall that is close to them. If you want to find a mage plant with specific properties the best method is to find the related Fall type location.
Despite this the Mage plants can grow outside of their original environments as long as they mimic their original condition. Fireshroom can easily be grown in areas with volcanic activity or sulfur. Air mage plants grow quite well in mountainous region and frostshrooms in cold areas.
Some mage plants are potent enough to change the environment to their liking themselves. A great example of this are the frostshroom on the
Gavoreka Isles where despite the warm surface temperature they create ice in the cavern where they grow.
Uses
Magic and potions
To many mages owning a large amount of mage plant materials is an absolute necessity. Even in early history the plants were used in a great variety of potions. In those days the plants affected by
Nature Magic were especially valuable as they allowed for the creation of healing concoctions even by non casters.
Later on they started to be used for improving magic itself. Some advanced spells peformed better when grinded mage plants of a specific type were used in the casting.
Specific uses
Besides their general benefits some of the plants could gain some additional benefits thanks to the magic type they were associated with.
Fireshrooms could be used a fuel source. Frostshrooms on the other hand are used for bringing the room temperature down which is great for conserving food.
