Oscar Wildberry

Stub in progress

Oscar Wildberry is Professor of Abjuration at Silver Shore Academy of Magi. Despite this title, he doesn't strike people as the typical, strong researcher type. No, on the contrary, Oscar Wildberry is very sheepish, soft and a bit clueless individual, who causes confusion and snorts where ever he goes.

To further bafflement, Oscar is one of the many children of legendary Ninthalor Elawynn, known from his fearlessness and charismatic personality. Oscar remembers his father very fondly, but beyond the distinct eye color and talent in magic, they seem to have very little in common. He appears to be timider in dating front as well, though have recently started dating Bernilda Shahin.

In the game, Oscar teaches Patch and Bhereg in the art of abjuration. While he and Patch have started to find a common interest, little Bhereg has mostly caused him a bit headache.

Personal history

Oscar Nekadi/Elawynn was born the village of Oldcall in 9th of Mar, 3917. His Human mother, Bela Nekadi, who made fishing nets and sewing to get by. She had a relationship to Oscar's father, Ninthalor Elawynn, known from his good, kind heart as well as his habit of being polyamorous and leaving behind him an impressive trail of bastard children. Bela had some trouble from this, though luckily in Silver Shore Island the unusual relationship practices of Elves.

Childhood

Oscar was a shy, timid child who enjoyed simple things and listening to stories of the fishermen about their catches and Dragon Turtles. He also enjoyed stories about his father, as he would meet him only rarely. Bela and Ninthalor would continue having a friendly relationship throughout Bela's lifetime. Ninthalor would (when he happened to wander close by) meet his son and help him and his mother out in any way he could. This relationship raised more than few eyebrows, and eventually, Bela would get tired of side-eyed looks. She would take her son, back her belongings and would move to Boar's Cross when Oscar was 10 years old.

Boar's Cross gave several new opportunities for both Oscar and Bela, and by age of 12, Oscar started to show signs of magical talent. His father suggested these powers be cultivated but refused to approve that his son would be sent to Silver Shore Academy of Magi at the time, thanks to his several moral and ideological differences with the school board at the time. Instead, Oscar would start as assistant and apprentice of wizard Payton Capili.

Early career

Payton Capili was a talented mage and parted lots of useful information for the still training Oscar, and introduced him to different concepts of magic. Oscar's talents in Abjuration became soon very much apparent. Even before Oscar had properly learned any cantrips to cast reliably, he started instinctively call for a magical shield to protect him whenever he got jumpy, which in Oscar's case was rather often. He also started to take an interest in botany, though this enthusiasm never went beyond gardening and growing some kitchen herbs and spices.

As Oscar's apprenticeship with Payton came to an end as Payton retired, Oscar would join his father, who called him to travel with him around the island. Oscar would travel with his father for a few months, and while he enjoyed some of it, he had not inherited his father's lively spirit. During this time, Oscar would become familiar with the rebellion movement Moonstalkers which his father was part of, as well as the druidic culture of the Island. He would also meet several of his half-siblings, many of which he would keep contact.

This trip would connect him with his half-dwarf, half-elf brother Barrol Brimstone, who would introduce him and help him get a job from the Stone Hall Archives. Despite Oscar's fidgety nature, the Archives recognized his talents. While Dwarf of Stone Halls cultures have never put same weight on the study of arcane, Oscar's talents were easy to understand and appreciate to his dwarven colleagues. He became a researcher and assistant in the Stone Hall Archives 3942, where he would study further, take part in expeditions and share his expertise with dwarven enchanters.

Oscar would first live with his brother Barrol Brimstone and send money for his mother Bela but would get soon his own apartment from Naugla Tarn. Bela would later move to Naugla Tarn to live with her son, while Oscar would continue working and get title of Professor in 3968. Oscar got the name "Wildberry" as a nickname from his dwarven colleagues. The name came to be partly as a friendly jab for his cowardly nature, but also from his love for gardening, and several self-made berry pies, juices, jams and other treats he would bring to his workplace. As it is typical among dwarfs, the name eventually stuck around to a point where Oscar uses it as his surname.

Oscar's mother Bela would pass on in autumn of 3977, little after her 99th birthday. This period was a hard time for Oscar. Bela died after a period of illness, with her last words for his son being "you've made me very proud, but remember to live a little, will you, sweetie?"

The Elawynn scandal & the War of Scale and Arrow

Oscar had shown empathy to the cause of Moonstalkers and their silent rebellion, but unlike many of his siblings, he never actively took part to the rebellion's efforts. He did not actively avoid the rebellion either but tried to stay as a neutral (or at least silent) party.

In year 4009, the event later known as "The Elawynn scandal" shocked the Silver Shore Island as Oscar's father, Ninthalor Elawynn, was recognized during Moonstalker mission, and declared Wanted by the Empire of Islenor that ruled the Island at the time.

The news devastated Oscar, but his anxiety grew even more as he started to hear rumors about the events among the Moonstalkers. Headstrong Ninthalor had refused to stay hidden and hiding underground for the time being. His stubbornness is speculated as one of the reasons why troops of the Empire of Islenor soon found one of the Moonstalker hideouts, destroying the camp and killing several civilians that had found shelter among the rebels.

To minimize any damage to all parties, Ninthalor's best friend Dezzner Shadowblade, took it to himself to kidnap Ninthalor and send him out of the country, with a blessing of Gnut Weaseltail, other friends of Ninthalor's. This move was extremely divisive among the Moonstalkers, but even more so, among the Ninthalor's children. Not only this messed up their relationships with their "uncle," but it also caused divides between the siblings, causing a lot of sadness in the family, Oscar included. Oscar tried to stay quiet of his feelings towards Dezzner's actions but has admitted missing his father a lot.

After the year 4019, however, Oscar was forced to pick his sides. Empire of Islenor went to war with Aradace Tharur, and the Silver Shore Island became one of the pieces on the board. later know as War of Scale and Arrow lasted for until 2026, during which time Empire of Islenor attempted to use the island as their naval base.

Moonstalkers would negotiate a treaty with Aradace Tharur for co-operation to drive off the empire from the island, and attempt to rally important players in the island to their cause. During the negotiation with Stone Halls, Oscar would take part to the negotiation as approving voice to the plans, if reluctantly. While he continued to stay away from the main conflict, some of his siblings would find this as a betrayal of their father, while others would congratulate him for continuing his father's work in his own way.

To this day, while not angry, Oscar still has complicated relationship to some of his family members and to Dezzner Shadowblade.

Academy of Magi

In the year 4026, War of Scale and Arrow ended and the Silver Shore Island became part of Aradace Tharur. Silver Shore Academy of Magi had taken major hits to it's staff as the High Elves were sent from the island, and new Archmage, Gnut Weaseltail, offered Oscar the position of Professor of Abjuration.

Oscar was first reluctant to change jobs but after encouragement from his siblings and friends, he took the position. He has worked in the academy ever since.
