Economy of Forbin

The economy of Forbin is a robust and multifaceted system, enriched by the diverse resources and entrepreneurial spirit of its semi-autonomous. Governed by their respective Lord Guardian, each contributes its unique economic character.   Forbin's strategic location at the heart of the Helerin Archipelago enhances its trade capabilities, facilitating the exchange of goods both domestically and with neighboring territories, including the occupied lands of Teros.

Key Industries

Forbin’s economy thrives on various key industries, each region specializing in specific products that bolster local and regional markets:
  • Amber extraction: The island of Great Forbin is the only place in the Helerin Archipelago where Amber can be found.
  • Agriculture: The fertile plains and valleys of Forbin support extensive agricultural activities. Major crops, including grains, fruits, and vegetables, are cultivated in Parroc and Midrun. Towns such as Misdorn and Pudras are particularly noted for their arable crops.
  • Mining and metalwork: The communities in Bostin and Norran the Forn Crags are renowned for their mining operations, extracting valuable resources such as copper, iron, and tin. Bachis is famed for its skilled smiths who produce high-quality metal goods, including weapons and armour. Metal from Teros also plays a crucial role, with local workshops using bronze and brass sourced from the occupied territory.
  • Timber and forestry: While the Nythran Forest is preserved by the Dharo, Forbin benefits from other forests, such as the Boswood, Callason Forest, and the Gilrim Forest, which provide timber for construction, shipbuilding, and craft goods. The cities of Olbrint and Gilrimmon are known for their timber trade, supplying wood to both local markets and neighboring regions. The addition of timber from Teros enhances the construction and crafting capabilities of Forbin.
  • Fishing: Coastal areas, particularly around the Bay of Jalus and the towns of the southern coast, rely heavily on fishing. The abundant marine life supports a thriving industry, with catches including prized species like the Thalkar and Kiddri. Fish are staples in the local diet and are exported to neighboring territories, including Mar Miskun and the Mar Mabon Townships.
  • Craftsmanship and Artisanship: Forbin’s towns are hubs of craftsmanship, producing everything from pottery and ceramics to intricate jewellery and textiles. The gemstone jewelry crafted in Gilrim is highly sought after and frequently traded with the Mar Mabon Townships, while the elaborate textiles and pottery produced in Olbrint find their way to markets across Helerin.
  • Brewing and Distilling: Mead-making is a cherished tradition in regions like Parroc and Jalussan. Local honey and wildflowers are utilized to create distinctive beverages that are enjoyed by locals and visitors, contributing to the region's culinary identity.
