The Northeast Region

The eastern region of Halruaal is a convergence of temperate lowlands and rich mountains known collectively as the Northeast. This region is split between the Isles De'L'Est and the Isole Ululant.

The south of this region host deceptive image of calm navigable waters, dotted with small islands. Although seemingly populated by a vast array of sea life, there are a series of dangerous alpha predators that make a concentrated fishing effort difficult. Whether it is large scale monsters such as shark-kin, the dreaded sea drakes, or other mysterious entities, much of the trade is settled into strict travel lanes with detours strongly dis-advised.  One major island sits in this region: Elba, home of the city of Carteia.  This island holds the largest deposit of Wardstone and is surrounded by cold and stormy waters trailing out of the North and The mist shrouded floating islands of the Isole Ululant.  Navigation is positively a nightmare and littered with all manner of leviathan-like creatures.

Predominantly this is the region is controlled by the Archons of House Blackharbour and House Aetius, and their vassals. Their citadel of Castle Blackhold and Castle Aetius fly to the South and North respectively; ever present as a beacon of their power, with patrols of airships guarding the airways. The sea trade of this region relies heavily on the Nauts, a loose trade collection of privateers and corsairs more often employed by nobility.  House Blackharbour has a strict monopoly of the southern region and it's abundance through the Imperial Highway, but House Aetius controls the northern coast, mountain range, and the seas under the Isole Ululant.

Granted there are some that view the Nauts as nothing more than pirates. To this day there are rumors of hidden island outposts where all manner of illicit activities occur. If true, then an untold amount of wealth might exist on the strange waters as the Nauts have operated for centuries. Although few are brave enough to venture out into the ocean to confirm them. Inland, the continent is bountiful with rich farmland, forest, and mountains containing an abundance of iron ore.

Elements of House Blackharbour have sought to capitalize on this wealth, by further displacing the native elves that are native to the region. When humans first colonized the region many of the elves were enslaved. Now a large population of elves remains as either second class citizens (after being freed a few centuries ago) or as wild elves hunting within the Keilden Forest. However, the general consensus remains that the elven nations are a scattered people.
