Bethar
Among the many villages under House Aetius Bethar is known to be a village of specialist, healers, and oddly enough chefs. Many of the exotic spices used in the finer dishes among the Magisterium in the Northeast are cultivated here. Because of this though the village uses much of the available lands to grow these ingredients and relies on regular imports to help supplement the food that is grown in the village. Outcroppings of hamlets and throps are scattered around the village and support the population.
Demographics
Much of the population of Bethar are half-elves and gnomes, though Bethar has a small portion of humans and half-orcs.
Government
Like most villages, Bethar is governed by a council of eldars and the local mayor. At the same time, it is ruled over by the local Baron of house Quintus.
Defences
Long ago, the early settlers made a pact with the various druids and fey creatures in this area. So long as the humans didn't expand too quickly and recklessly, nature would not harm them. The people of Bethar have kept this promise since the founding and no animal, elf, or fey have harmed them. Many of the surrounding wildlife appear docile and domesticated. In actuality they have helped shield the village from all number of threats.
Industry & Trade
So much time goes into the cultivation of spices and new dishes that not much else focused on. Outside imports are relied upon to help the village function, but key among the various trades that are sought after are hemp and tabacco, primarily for building material and relaxation (as understandably competition raise the blood pressure of the the population).
Infrastructure
Early explorers of Bethar found this area in a grove of elvish druids and fey creatures. Enraptured by the flavours of food, they brought back samples to the town of Danaster. It was decided at an outpost be formed. The pairing between the humans of House Aetius and the elves led to the growth of the half-elven population.
Assets
Many apothecaries and kitchens exist within the village proper, and many more in the surrounding hamlets and thorps. Various culinary schools have cropped up and compete against one another for the title of Master of Spices.
Guilds and Factions
The Congregation of Merchant is the primary faction that resides in Bethar in large numbers. The Congregation is divided among four guilds of chefs and alchemist each using their own secret formula and technique to challenge each other in food and medicine.
Architecture
Houses in Bethar are largely made of wood from the Forest, but also of hemp. They are large spaces that can easily incorporate large kitchens and storehouses of the various spices and foods.
Geography
Bethar is well into the Forest and as such is primarily dominated by it. The village itself seems to almost grow out of the tree line. Small rivers and pounds in the surrounding area provide water for both Bethar's residents and the plants that grow the spices.
Natural Resources
Wood from the Forest is carefully cut down in order to maintain the promise with the fey lords of past. The soil and local flora here are also thoroughly supercharged with unique qualities
