Arausio

Arausio is a developed village known in the fur trade. The village specializes in the furs of small animals such as: rabbits, beavers, and foxes. Arausio occupies land that is controlled and governed by the Baron of house Sansorati. While not exactly old, it is a relatively stable village that has been keenly developed by both the residents living there and by the residents of local town. To prove this point, despite being inside the bounds of the Keilden Forest, a stable road and open land space has allowed to quick travel to Danaster.

Demographics

In Arausio, Humans share the primary population with half-orcs with a small smattering of halflings and gnomes.

Government

Like most villages, the day to day governance is run by a council of elders and the local Mayor. The land however is owned by Baron of house Sansorati and fealty - as well as taxes - go back to the town.

Defences

The area around Arausio is well patrolled given the valuable trade that comes from the region.  Local rangers act as scouts and hunters also serve as back up for the militias and House Aetius' sentries.  However, the region is home to a variety of large creatures that can make exploration difficult and at time excessive hunting and trapping have created poor relations with a local druid circle.  The village itself is surrounded by a large wall of Ironwood keeping many of the harsher dangers out, but deep travel into the woods is still ill-advised.   Even then, locals have discovered a number of caves which they have carved out into homes and storage centers that can be transitioned into emergency shelters.

Industry & Trade

Hunting and trapping, as well as logging, have kept the village from crashing.  The steady flow of furs and pelts have impressed the local nobility to provide for the village and ensure it's protection.  Industry has waxed and wanned over the decades, but it remains a viable opportunity.  Though while small furs are in ready supply, much of the populations focus on this have left the desires of local sportsman and merchants wanting in other areas.  For instance, the pelts and sport of huge (and larger) creatures are in ready demand as if the finer comforts of furniture for more wealthy merchants who have made lodges and homes in the village grounds.  Such things can rake a steady profit for those that can deliver.

Infrastructure

The fur trade rules the spirit of Arausio and as such, trappers, hunters, and all manner of woodsy people.  Because of the time and specialization, the road between the village and the local town is well maintained and frequently patrolled.

Assets

With the influx of hunters and trappers, Arausio is also a frequent stop for Rangers.  As such woodland guides are fairly common in the region and help to establish good relations and healthy harvests.

Guilds and Factions

The Congregation of Merchants, and some might even say the Night Guild, have a presence in the village.  With the Fur Trade being the name of the game, the groups involved have pushed product through and maintain steady caravans by leaning on local powers.

Architecture

Many of the homes here are built out of wood harvested from the Keilden Forest.  Some houses and structures are crafted by digging out large hills and mounds in the area; not to mention carving out structures from local cavern systems.

Geography

For the most part, the region around Arausio is a range of hills and forests with spars flat lands. The more flat regions have been cultivated into farms to help support the village. The entrance to the village used to be obscured by dense trees. Over the last two generations both the residents of Arausio and Danaster have cleared it to help maintain a large road.

Natural Resources

For whatever reason, a large number of small animals have made their home in the area and have maintained a high birth rate that has kept up with the trapping and hunting business operated by the village.  The wood secured from the Forest is used to help fashion homes and hunting posts and a small source of underground rivers and ponds supply the village with fresh water.
