Gods of Time and Order

  • Symbol: gold eight-pointed star
  • In the faith of the Gods of Time and Order, eight is a holy number. In the Chronanese Calendar, there are 24 hours in a day, 8 days in a week, 40 days in a month, and in a year there are 320 days, 40 weeks and 8 months. All time is divisible by eight, which is also the amount of the true gods.   These eight gods are worshipped throughout the Eight States of Chronan after The Eight Prophets unified the people of the continent under the faith, commonly known as The Order. Their successors The Metropolites, political and religious leaders of each state, ensure that their teachings are followed by everyone. It is taught that through their piety, the people of Chronan have earned the gift of steam technology.   Other deities outside these eight are deemed "false Gods of Chaos" by the faith, and worshipping them is a cardinal sin and a reason for banishment from the Eight States. The three Dragon Gods are usually exempt, for few dare to argue with dragons.   The gods are said to reside in their own planes, known collectively as the Seven Heavens as well as the Underworld, where they welcome pious souls to an afterlife in solemnity.   The Eight include:
    • Aegias-Meteo: the two-headed main deity associated with creation and destruction.
    • Elethrain: the dwarven goddess of wealth and the afterlife.
    • Kreusstross: the gnome god of inventions and technology.
    • Manadis: the masked moon god of beauty, art and culture.
    • Philomelo: the elven deity of knowledge, secrets and magic.
Some research, deemed heretical and sacriledgious by The Order, theorizes that each of the gods are based on an earlier deity worshipped either in a local monotheistic religion or as part of an ancient culture's pantheon. This is also supported by the fact that most of the Eight represent a different sentient species. The only exception to this is said to be the main deity, Aegias-Meteo, who isn't mentioned in any scriptures or oral traditions prior to the Fellstar cataclysm.
