Other Planes

Within Chronanese myths and lore, there are many mentions of other planes of existence. These realms are said to be the origins of gods and monsters, with their influence constantly seeping into the material world. These other planes include:

Astral Sea

It is said that the void between the planes and the stars is an infinite ocean where the husks of dead gods float and strange aberrations hunt for interplanar travellers. Several people in the ancient Magocracies aimed to reach the Astral Sea in order to escape the Ashen Age, and there are writings indicating that one of them did.

Abyss

The chaotic plane of demons and other fiendish abominations is the bottomless Abyss. It had no one leader, for it is impossible for demons to agree upon anything, but each layer was ruled by one or several archdemons. Demons are personifications of madness and sickness, taking on endless forms. While devils of the Nine Hells are said to compete with the gods for the souls of the mortals, demons of the Abyss only enjoy wanton destruction and ruin. Thus devils and demons are said to be locked in an eternal war with each other, and should that war ever cease, the mortal world would be in great danger.

Elemental Plane

Primordial plane of the raw elements of nature, inhabited by elemental creatures, genies and spirits. This plane is the easiest to access by magic, and the powerful mages that have visited there describe it being divided into regions of fire, water, air and earth, clashing and melding into one another at the junction points. Calymax, the founder of Heathaven, is an efreeti sorceress from this plane.

Faerie Realm

A place of wild wonders and raw emotion, the Faerie Realm is the home to many strange fey creatures. It is sometimes called the Feywild. The realm reflects the material world, but in quirky ways. It is also the ancestral birthplace of elves. The Grandwood in Reignstone is deeply connected to the Faerie Realm, and its denizens used the many portals within the forest to flee from the Fellstar calamity thousands of years ago. The realm is said to be ruled by various powerful creatures known as the archfey, the most powerful of which are the two queens, Titania of the Seelie Court and Mab of the Unseelie Court.

Nine Hells

Devils and other lawful evil fiends are said to originate from the realm of eternal pain and agony, where souls of the damned are tortured for the crimes they committed during their life. The devils have a strict hierarchy within their realm, and they are in direct opposition of the chaotic demons of the Abyss. Its nine regions are known as "Circles", each governed by a mighty archdevil:

Avernus, the First Circle, ruled by Satannas, the Archdevil of Wrath

Dis, the Second Circle, ruled by Dispater, the Archdevil of Manipulation

Minauros, the Third Circle, ruled by Mammon, the Archdevil of Greed

Phlegethos, the Fourth Circle, ruled by Belial, the Archdevil of Pain

Stygia, the Fifth Circle, ruled by Lilith, the Archdevil of Lust

Malbolge, the Sixth Circle, ruled by Glasya Labolas, the Archdevil of Sloth

Maladomini, the Seventh Circle, ruled by Beelzebub, the Archdevil of Gluttony

Canis, the Eighth Circle, ruled by Mephistopheles, the Archdevil of Envy

Nexus, the Ninth Circle, ruled by Asmoday, the Archdevil of Pride and the Lord of Lies

Seven Heavens

The celestial realms of seven of the eight Gods of Time and Order, where only the noblest souls are allowed to ascend. The eighth god, Elethrain, welcomes all other souls to her Underworld domain. There are many theories of the true names and natures of the heavens:

The Clockwork Nirvana of Mechanus, the heaven of Aegias-Meteo

Pax Arcadia, the heaven of Politia Palladion

Mount Celestia, the heaven of Manadis

Bytopia, the Twin Paradise, the heaven of Kreusstross

The Blessed Fields of Elysium, the heaven of Tritiana Mater

The Glades of Arvandor, the heaven of Philomelo

The Heroic Domain of Ysgard, the heaven of Zaumaturge

Shadow Realm

An echo of the material world, the Shadow Realm is a colorless wasteland of despair and sorrow. Some call it the Shadowfell or the Shadowland, or just "The Shadow". It is devoid of warmth and joy, and creatures of night and terror thrive there. Like the Faerie Realm, things that exist in the material world are reflected here, but in twisted ways. The realm is said to be ruled by an entity known as the Raven Conspirator, who is rumored to be a deity or an archfey in exile, gathering mental mementos into their Museum of Memories.

Underworld

The realm of the death goddess Elethrain, said to exist deep within the core of the world, where the souls of people who were given a proper burial descent to be judged. Most souls are said to remain in the Underworld to empower the earth to birth new life.
