EooD Session 34: Breakfast at Marwen's

General Summary

Month 1, Week 3, Year 901
Day 8 in the Underdark
After successfully defeating the illithid Dordekt and liberating the camp's prisoners, the Dark Souls raced towards Dromire in silence as they processed the death of Jael Hainaut. All that was left of the cleric was a vial of ash, having valiantly risked her life in the battle against the mind flayers. The ride was uncomfortable and bumpy with Poolp at the helm, but the party thought it'd be better to rest in Castle Hainaut rather than camping out in the Underdark for another night.   The dozen or so prisoners freed from the illithid camp kept to themselves, except for a blue tiefling by the name of Mormo. The blacksmith claimed to recognize Allexander as one of the dark elves that had kidnapped him from Rakka's frontier, Lachesis listening to his rant through the whispers of a 'Message' spell. It seemed that Mormo recognized Allexander's bright eyes from a ritual where it felt like a part of his soul was being removed from his body, details that the dark elf wizard would ponder over the next day.   Along the way to Dromire, Poolp nearly ran over a quaggoth in a cableknit sweater, choosing instead to grapple him with a whip and toss him into the carriage. The quaggoth introduced himself as Snowball Q, a retainer of House Aribond tasked with assisting the Dark Souls on their mission to defeat Naberius and House Baudissin. For a while the party discussed plans for a post-fiendish future, especially the kind of deals that would need to be made between Rakka and the Verschow to ensure a long-lasting peace. Marwen argued that the Buadissins would need to be punished for their devilish deals, but others in the party wanted a more conciliatory approach to reunify the Verschow.   Lachesis did some smooth-talking at the Dromire gates, and the party made it into the city without issue. Q spent the night at Castle Aribond while the rest of the party headed back to Castle Hainaut. Lachesis and Verity spent the evening interrogating the freed prisoners of the illithid camp, while Marwen was tasked with delivering the bad news about Jael's passing to Saskia. The reunion between Saskia and Marwen turned bitter and tearful, after which the exhausted matriarch slept for over twelve hours. Poolp kept guard outside Marwen's bedroom, Nineveh toured Castle Hainaut's armory with Arnulf, and Skyler found a way to get some alone time with Allexander.   Lachesis and Verity's interrogations revealed more questions than answers, especially about Allexander. Verity's brusque questioning of the tieflings showed a pattern of kidnappings and disappearances into the Underdark followed by mysterious rituals performed by dark elves. Every tiefling insisted they remembered a dark elf with bright eyes in the mix, not unlike Allexander's. As for Lachesis' interrogations, it appeared that all of the non-tiefling prisoners had been captured directly by the illithids without any encounters with drow. Except for Applonia, a dark elf woman who was on one of her first patrols around Dromire when she came across some odd gathering of elves. She couldn't remember any of the faces, as if something was stopping her from clearly envisioning the moment. Content with a long night of questioning, the two adventurers rested back in the comfort of their beds and slept in for much of the morning.   Day 9 in the Underdark
Snowball Q showed up at Castle Hainaut at the break of dawn, passing the time by helping Lando reorganize his bookcase for several hours. Eventually the party assembled for a late breakfast, including an exhausted Lachesis who looked like she hadn't rested at all. Saskia headed out that morning to invite some of the noble houses to a party where House Hainaut would gather support against the Baudissins, Allexander and Verity agreeing to keep her company on the social calls. Lachesis had a private moment with Saskia, some raw emotions put on display as Lachesis tried to put some of her suspicions about Allexander to rest.   Later that day the party woke Marwen up to plan out their revolt against the Baudissins. Marwen still looked weak and tired, saying it would take several days for her strength to recover after casting that Dordekt-killing spell. Snowball volunteered to head over to the local temple of the Ageless One to find a cleric capable of contacting Father Eli Anderson about their recent progress, the rest of the party choosing to stay at Castle Hainaut and keep watch over Marwen. Skyler was officially on vacation after several deadly run-ins with monsters in the Underdark, while the rest of the party discussed the best way to change the Verschow's political situation.
