The Rothegn

Troop Composition

Troop Size

Medium-sized troop of 30 members (balanced between foraging efficiency and safety).

Demographics

Females: 18
  • Core of the troop; divided into three matrilines, each led by an experienced female.
  • Includes 6 adolescent females learning how to care for infants.
Males: 7
  • 2 dominant males responsible for defense and access to mates.
  • 3 middle-ranking males assisting in troop protection and occasionally forming "friendships."
  • 2 young adult males—newcomers trying to establish rank.
Children: 5 (3 male, 2 female)
  • All between the ages of 2 and 7, growing at normal human rates.

Key Members of the Troop

Mara – Dominant female leader of the main matriline

  • Age: ~35 (older, experienced survivor)
  • Highly respected by other females and trusted by dominant males.
  • Known for her resourcefulness in finding food during scarce periods.

Gora – Dominant male

  • Age: ~28
  • The largest and most aggressive male, often taking the lead in defending the troop.
  • Has "friendship bonds" with Mara and another high-ranking female, Vela.

Vela – High-ranking female (second matriline)

  • Age: ~30
  • Commands respect due to her experience and ability to maintain order within her subgroup.
  • Has two young children and often mentors adolescent females in caregiving.

Torik – Second-ranking male

  • Age: ~26
  • Gora’s main competitor, frequently challenging him for dominance but often settling for a supportive role.
  • More cooperative and better at leading hunting expeditions.

Behavioral Dynamics

Dominance and Relationships

  • Gora and Torik frequently clash over dominance, but Torik generally backs down to avoid troop instability.
  • The matrilines often cooperate during foraging and child-rearing but compete for resources during scarce times.
  • Adolescent females from each matriline are encouraged to interact with infants for practice, though tension arises if dominance between the lines is unclear.

Friendships

  • Mara has enduring friendships with both Gora and Torik, ensuring the safety of her matriline.
  • Vela has formed a friendship with a middle-ranking male, Kaldon, who frequently "baby-sits" her children.

Troop Movements

  • The troop remains mobile, foraging in forested areas, Wasteland and occasionally raiding Necropolis for food and supplies.
  • They sleep in abandoned buildings or large canopy trees, with dominant males and females keeping watch.

Troop Strengths

  1. Efficient Foragers:
The troop excels at foraging and can adapt to different environments, scavenging food from buildings, forests, and even underground spaces.
  2. Defense and Cohesion:
The presence of two dominant males (Gora and Torik) and several middle-ranking males ensures that the troop remains well-protected from predators and rival troops.
  3. Strong Maternal Lines:
The close-knit matrilines create a stable social environment for young zombies, ensuring their survival and growth.

Troop Weaknesses

  1. Internal Rivalry:
The rivalry between Gora and Torik occasionally causes disruptions, especially when competing for dominance or mating opportunities.
  2. Resource Scarcity:
With 30 members, resource competition is a constant struggle, and the troop must keep moving to find enough food to sustain itself.
  3. Limited Innovation:
While the troop can adapt to its environment, they lack innovative strategies compared to other more advanced groups or factions.

Troop Goals

  1. Survival:
The primary goal is to secure enough resources and territory to ensure the survival of all members.
  2. Territorial Expansion:
The troop seeks to establish dominance over nearby territories, allowing for more consistent access to food and shelter.
  3. Protection of the Young:
Ensuring the safety of their children is a core priority, with both males and females contributing to childcare and defense.

Culture

The Necromancers of Necropolis have been capturing and domesticating the Zombies around their settlement for years. The result is that the Rothegn troop has a strong distrust of those outside their troop. They respond to outsiders with immediate aggression with the assumption that outsiders are there to kidnap members of their troop.

This troop is Animyst: Badger for their stat modifications.

You see the figure before you—a strange, feral being whose presence dominates the arid landscape. Ragged leather straps and torn cloth hang from a patchwork coat, barely concealing the creature’s wiry frame. Its face, unmistakably badger-like, glares at you with unnervingly sharp black eyes that gleam with a mixture of primal cunning and mistrust. The creature grips a crude, bloodied dagger tightly, its clawed paws wrapped in fraying bandages. Its fur bristles, white stripes stark against the dusty surroundings, giving it a wild, battle-hardened appearance.

As you approach, you sense it sizing you up, every twitch of its muscles betraying a readiness to attack or flee at a moment’s notice. The air between you crackles with tension, the silent language of survival etched into its posture. You realize quickly—this is no mindless beast. Though its gaze lacks the depth of human thought, it speaks of instinct honed to razor-sharp precision. Whether it is friend or foe remains unclear, but one thing is certain: underestimating it would be a fatal mistake.
