March of La Mee
Public Agenda
The March has a long history as a political buffer zone, most prominently between the Duchy of Letha and the Duchy of Anjev, where it was part of the traditional Marches of Neustria. However, on a local level, its centralized location as a border region often factors into more local struggles between the Konts of Angers, Naoned and Roazhon.
La Mee has recently come under the control of House Frihep
History
The fortress of Kastell-Briant was created when Sieur Briant, an envoy of the Kont de Roazhon, established a motte-and-bailey castle on the site, guarding the Kaer River. This fortress became the center of the March of La Mee, established by King Salaun of Letha to serve as a buffer against Gallian interests. For much of its history, the seat of the region was located in nearby Lordship of Mitaud at La Roch, but it has since become largely independent thanks to a series of appenages, unions and reorganizations.
Demography and Population
La Mee is sparsely populated outside of the major settlements, shunned by the Kriores and other Korrigan people because of the high iron content in the soil.
Territories
La Mee is located on the Eastern border of the Duchy of Letha, part of the Marches of Neustria. To the North sits the March of Guerchais and to the South, the March of Ancenis.
To the West, La Mee borders the Biskonti Roazhon, The Barony of Redon and Biskonti Naoned.
To the East, La Mee borders two vassals of the Duchy of Anjev: The Lordship of Pouancé and the Lordship of Beauveau .
Religion
The Faith, has made little inroads into the region, which remains a pagan stronghold even in the present day, despite regular efforts to bring the inhabitants into its umbrella.
Agriculture & Industry
The region, also known as Ironhill, holds large deposits of iron ore, which is mined by Fomorian and Bediz miners, as the Kriores are unable or unwilling to extract the toxic ore. La Mee iron is used in the construction of Windblades and Ironglass, as well as cold iron.
Small rivers criss-crossing the hilly countryside make it a simple matter to utilize water power, as rivermills are quite common in the region.
Cattle are raised in hilly pastures, and cereal production is the most common use of agricultural land.
