Kontelezh Pentevr
Structure
The County of Pentevr is a feudal state, sworn to the Duchy of Letha and ruled by the Konts of Pentevr. The Konts, in turn, are supported by lesser lords and vassals maintaining increasingly localized regions within their borders. Barons, Lords and appointed Seneschals administer their own fiefdoms, producing value and providing soldiers in exchange for the patronage and protection of their noble lieges.
Vassals of Pentevr, from West to East are:
The Lordship of Goelo follows to coast from the confluence of the Trev and Lenv to the Goued River and the town of Sant-Brioc. Goelo is a desolate coastal region without major settlements, populated by isolated standing stones and hermetic monasteries.
The Viscounty of Pentver is located between the Goued and Flora Rivers. The thriving port-town of Sant-Brioc nicely fills the coffers of the Pentver family, connected to the wealthy Gallian House of Blaez, giving them a powerful political position despite the relative isolation of their ancestral lands.
The Barony of Ar Mor Emrodez stretches from the Flora River to the Froudveur River. High atop pink granite cliffs, the region is fairly isolated, housing several small port towns between large stretches of open moors.
The Lordship of Loudeig is a forested region is falling deep within the Brekilien, South of the Viscounty of Pentveur past the Lying River. It is was once within the domain of the larger Viscounty of Roc'han in the County of Gwened, but a large portion of this lordship has been subsumed by Faerie and annexed by the Courts of Summer and Winter, much to the anger of House Roc'han, who control most of Gwened.
Lordship of Mene lies to the West of Loudeig and has largely vanished into the Brekilien, with only small hamlets, castles and churches remaining in the tiny fiefdom.
The Ar Mor Breizh
The Fair Counties
The hill of Menez Beller marks the division between the coastal sovereignties of the ar mor and the Fair Counties of the ar goat, controlled by Fae interests since the reign of Konstanza I . The two regions within Pentevr have no coastal access.Public Agenda
Pentevr is a region at odds with itself. Many of its vassals are heavily tied to Korrigan population and political control, with the Fair Counties of the Ar Goat under the direct control of the The Brekilien League. The ruling family in Sant-Brioc, however, are fervent Staunchists, moving to implement policies of Bediz supremacy and squeezing the Korrigan and Druids out of power.
Recent events have put Janed Ar Gammez and her husband "Sant" Charlez Blaez within striking distance of the Ducal throne. Together with allies in Dinan, Blaez has led Letha to a state of civil war.
History
Once part of the Kingdom of Dumnonea, Pentevr was created by Dug Jafrez I as an appanage after The Poisoner's Game to limit the power of Dreger and Leon, and to counter threats from the Duchy of La Manche and the Duchy of Anjev.
In 1056, Dug Konan "Ar Du" IV of Pentevr ascended to the throne, pulling the region from a backwater into the forefront of Lethan politics. Dugez Konstanza I and her daughter, Dugez Eleanor I continued the line, ushering in an era of Bediz-Fae equality. It was Konstanza who created the Fair Counties. The noble families on Pentevr formed alliances and married into powerful positions around Kornôgel. In 1139, Duke Yann "Ar Ruzh" I of the House of Dreux ascended to the ducal throne, but the transformative rules before him had placed the region into a position of soft power.
Territories
Pentevr's Western borders begin at the Lenv River and end at the Froudveur in the East. The Goued river, between them, empties into the Bae-Sant-Brioc.
Military
Pentevr has leveraged its substantial coffers and the backing of its Gallian allies into a powerful military force, largely comprised of the Free Company of The Tards-Venus under Commander Seguin Badefol. The company commands a large fleet of WIndships and martime vessels in Bae Sant-Brioc, one of the largest in the region.
House Pentevr and their allies also hold the largest collection of Brassgaurd outside of Gwened.
Foreign Relations
Pentevr is noteworthy for its strong ties with the Gallian-Anjevin House of Blaez, one of the most powerful in the Kingdom, which has given substantial financial and military backing to the Janed Pentevr, as well as the Southern Church, which provides similar support to its fervent defender "Sant" Charlez.
Agriculture & Industry
Lambal is an important market town, specializing in the production of earthenware, as well as tanning and leatherworking.
Grains and cereals are grown within in the region and it has become known for its well bred stallions.
Trade & Transport
The port of Sant-Brioc is a thriving center of trade, a major stop between the Cloth Cities and the textile producing ports of Dreger. The Bae-Sant-Brioc is sheltered from the rough weather, and is a common place for ships to stop of to escape storms on the narrow sea and is calm and wide enough for Windships to land without difficulty.
The town of Lambal holds a weekly market, one of the most highly regarded in Letha, selling leather goods, earthenware and gastronomic delights.
Overland, major roads, including on once leading between Ker-Ahes and Nasado in the days of Gradlon Mwar, ensure that the region is well-traveled.
