Viscounty-Bishopric of Landreger

Structure

The seat of the County of Dreger, the title of Viscount-Bishop is held as a matter of course by the Counts of Dreger. In addition to direct oversight of the city of Landreger, the Count controls numerous minor lords and knights within the territory, as well as larger vassal states swearing fealty. As a result, the Counts play a significantly more substantial role in regional politics here than in the Eastern half of Dreger. This has led the realms of Blackwater, Landreger and Gwengamp being called the "heart of Dreger."

Public Agenda

The Counts of Dreger strike a delicate balance between their allegiance to the Duke and a desire for semi-autonomy from foreign meddling. They are frequently at odds with Roazhon, battling for influence with the wealthy city of Dinan. Despite the Counts taking a active control of many church functions in a secular capacity, they have taken little action against Fae incursion and druidic resurgence, much to the anger of Church Elders in Avinhon and their vocal supporters.

Assets

In addition to the wealth from other regions as the County Seat, the region maintains the small port at Landreger and numerous coastal settlements. Numerous rivers cross the area, making it fertile for agriculture. Mills for the processing of wheat, flax and buckwheat line the rivers, trafficked by small boats.

History

Demography and Population

As with most of Dreger, the population is weighted towards female, with a significant number of Boermerzh and Milliget population.   Lannuon and Landreger are the two major population centers of the region.

Territories

Landreger is bounded on its west by the Leger, on the East by the Trev, on the North by the Mor Breizh and on the South by the Meneziou Are.

Military

Landreger, the seat of the County, possesses the largest military in Dreger, with the exception of the Barony of Blackwater and the Viscounty of Dinan. The Count controls a large fleet of ships and 7 Skyships, with yellow and black sails. These are berthed in the lake at Kastell Tonkedeg, along with those of Blackwater.

Religion

The Southern Church has made Landreger a stronghold, despite the Count's lax attitude towards the Fae and Druids and the city itself is one of the largest gatherings of the Faith in the region, even as it loses ground in nearby Lannuon and Montroulez. Religious buildings, including abbeys, hospitals and chapterhouses pack the streets and nearby villages.

Foreign Relations

Landreger has tight ties with Blackwater and Gwengamp, forming a solid alliance against the machinations of the Eastern vassals. Landreger has an ongoing rivalry against County of Roazhon regarding the Merchant city of Dinan.

Agriculture & Industry

Buckwheat, wheat and flax are the primary crops of this region, made fertile by the many rivers crossing its territory.

Trade & Transport

4 small Remusan roads cross the territory from E-W, mostly between Lannuon and Gwengamp, while a major one leads N-S between Landreger and Ker-Ahes.   Despite the reputation of the port as a quiet one, the rivers still do a bustling business outside of the city, taking crops and materials up and down the waterways.

Livre Tournais. 12 Deniers = 1 Sol; 20 Sol = 1 Livre. Thanks to the efforts of the Merchantmen, coinage across Breizh has become somewhat uniform, pegging value to the Livres Tournais. Coins of Dreger, minted in the Viscounty-Bishopric, are often called Dragons, due to the dragon image printed on them. They are often counterfeited, leading to suspicion by merchants if too many are used in one place. As a result of this, local slang has adopted the term "hoard of dragons" to signify something that, while initially appearing impressive, is actually worthless upon closer inspection.   Because of the strange quicks of mineral-based coin valuation, some of the older the counterfeits occasionally become worth more than the real coins when the gold or silver content is lowered by the mint.
