Structure

The Biskonti Dol is the smallest of the realms of Letha, controlling only itself as a city-state and one major vassal, the Barony of Clos-Ratel.   Despite its small size, Dol holds an outsized power in the region, as the Lethan seat of The Southern Church.

Culture

Dol is one of the stops on the Tro Breizh Pilgrimage, marked by megalithic monuments and the tomb of Sampson of Dol, a saint of the Faith.

History

Dol was first settled by a group of monks of the Faith, under Samson of Dol. Taking advantage of the easy landing along the low-lying wetlands and the location along the ar Mor Breizh, Dol grew quickly around the monestary, a small but robust fishing and eeling trade appearing.     Dol was first settled by a group of monks of the Southern Church, their prime location along the coast making them a natural stop of those traveling along the Mor Breizh. A small town grew up to support the monastery and these travelers, taking advantage of a calm harbour to establish a small fishing trade.   During the reign of Budig II, High King of Letha, a powerful Wyrm emerged from the sea near Dol, ravaging the Northern Ar Mor until is was subdued, chained to a rock in the sea with massive silversteel chains. The creature, long dormant, still thrashes occasionally, sending massive waves and storms out from its location.   The region was sacked by the Vikings under Hastings Fireforged, but failed to occupy the region for long, as Dol was the landing place of Duke Alan "Al Louarn" II, ending the Fomorian Interregnum. Despite this, Dol was a frequent target of raiders from both the Orkney Isles and Normandi.

Territories

Dol is the Northeastern most territory in Letha, marking the upper corner of the vassals of the County of Roazhon, bordering the Mor Breizh in the north and the Norman County of Avranches in the East. The town, bearing the same name as the larger region, is located halfway between Menez-Mikael and Sant-Maloù   The territory is defined by low-lying coastal flood plains and meadows, providing fertile land for agriculture and husbandry. Other stretches, such as the coast on which the capital sits, is dominated by cliffs up to 20 meters high, giving it a commanding view of the coastline. The Guyoult river passes nearby, crossing much of the Viscounty.

Religion

Dol served as the backdrop for a centuries long debate over the autonomy of the Lethan Church and the region as a whole, with Lethan Dukes, starting with Nominoe, appointing a regional Bishop, in opposition to the long-held authority of the Bishop of Tours

Agriculture & Industry

Legend states that a group of holy men, fleeing the Sidhe on Albia, fled to the Dol region with fruit blessed by the gods, planting the stone fruit groves that still are found in the region, extraordinarily flavourful and hearty plants that provide the region with fruit deep into Winterrule. Sidhe legend levels accusations of theft against these legendary founders, claiming the fruits originated in the gardens of Emain Ablach. Whatever their origin, Dol has become well known for its peaches, apricot and apple production.
