Kab Frehel

Geography

Kab Frehel juts out from the Ar Mor Emrodez, a dramatic stretch of coastline terminating the Plateau de Dreger on the Armorican Peninsula, against the Mor Breizh between the Bay of Sant-Brioc and the Bay of Aleth. The undulating terrain is marked with high and rocky cliffs of pink sandstone, rising up to 70 meters above the crashing waves, capped with rough gorse and heather, swaying in the near constant winds. At sea-level, the cliffs have been carved away by the waves and winds, resulting in stone-arches, caves, islets and rocky shoals. This has rendered the region virtually inaccessible by sea and has given the area a treacherous reputation by sailors, but also serves as a haven for coastal animals and Fae.   The Bay of Brioc is home to a remarkable tidal shift, the sea shifting several kilometers between high and low tides, leaving a long sandy beach as it retreats. In the distance, the Eneziou Brehat (Archipelago of Brehat) can been seen, including Enez An Morbig, Enez Beniguet (hosting a ruined chapel to Saint Guenole that now serves as a haven for smugglers out of Aleth, the massacred castle town of Enez Lavrec, the Nathair colony of Enez Maudez in an abandoned Abbey of the Faith, as well as dozens of smaller islets.   The interior of the peninsula is largely covered in marshes and moorlands, resulting in few attempts at extensive construction, save for the Castle of Roc'h Goueon atop one of the cliffs and a pair of stone lighthouses warning ships away. The closest Bediz village is located inland, several kilometres from the sea, leaving the region a largely uninhabited, isolated stretch of land.

Localized Phenomena

Kab Frehel is often inundated with Feth Fiada, thick magical fog that rolls in across the Mor Breizh. The rolling blanket of mist makes travel dangerous both at sea and on land, the steep cliffs and sharp rocks making for an ever-present threat.

Fauna & Flora

The clifftops of the peninsula are covered in short scrub, mostly gorse and heather, a blanket of greenery that give the Ar Mor Emrodez (Emerald Coast) its name. Seabirds, such as An Morbig (Oystercatchers), gulls, cormorants, razorbills and puffins are common along the cliffs, as are the Barnacle Geese of Faerie origin. Whales and seals are often seen here, as well as all manner of fish and sharks. Deeper inland, deer, foxes, wolves, wild boar, rabbits and bats also call Kab Frehel home.

Natural Resources

Sandstone can be mined here and is own for its distinct pink-red colour, and several small quarries, dating back to the days of the , pockmark the region, filling with rainwater or drainging back into the sea. Although the seas around the rocky cliffs are among the most treacherous in Breizh, the fishing is quite plentiful for those brave or foolish enough to attempt it. Egg-collectors from nearby villages often rappel down the cliffs to raid the nests of seabirds, these eggs becoming a popular delicacy in the area.
