Dzhassary

A Dzhassary (Dzha'zari: ‎meaning "new soldier") is a member of the elite light infantry units that formed the Duryad Kapral's household troops, bodyguards and the first modern standing army in Naghron.   They became famed for internal cohesion cemented by strict discipline and order. For all practical purposes, Zarytaries belonged to the Kapral, carrying the title "Subject of the gate" indicating their collective bond with the Kapral. Zarytaries were taught to consider the corps as their home and family, and the Kapral as their de facto father/mother. The Dzhassaries corps was significant in a number of ways. The Dzhassaries wore uniforms, were paid in cash as regular soldiers, and marched to distinctive music. The unit served in a dual capacity through its role as imperial guard alongside its contribution to the ranks of the Sultanate's standing army. While it primarily consisted of Duryadi, the force also included Nymphars, Fiongians and Gholdahars. Essential questions regarding the historic unit remain unanswered because authoritative sources are missing.

Duryadi infantry were relatively lightly armored compared to their earlier Magowanese counterpart, their strength coming from their exceptional organization and discipline, not being clad in iron.   In melee combat they used axes or kilijs and round shields. Zarytaries who guarded the palace carried long-shafted axes, halberds and glaives
