Season 11, Episode 9: "The Blessing of the Arcanist" Report

General Summary

Carsai flared his eldritch wings, spreading his infamous barrier between his enemies and the Sideways Steps, and the Dream Team met him claw for blade. Alarms sounded all over Aucturn, as Ana continued to report on the rise and fall of Crow's Anticipations, and the team's forces fought both around them and across the stars.   While Flay, Anastasia, and Masamune locked Carsai in place, MaMa and Isra quickly swept up his Wither Ghasts, and Regulus and Abelina prepared for the arrival of her target. Mist sensed them first, empowered by the Tinker Tools placed within his chest, as two powerful Wither creatures surged into the melee, and Gris and Chamas entered the field.   Caesura and Helen arrived at the top of the ridge to interrupt the Dreamer's use of the Soul Divided's tome, and Skittles arrived to help pin down Gris. Abelina called out to Mist and Lockette, binding their weapons to the Starstone with Regulus' help, and Wyatt warded the Ysoki from outside influence.   Destiny exploded, like a barrel of fuel surrounded by fireworks, the Dream Team at last throwing down the match.   Cornelius fled to the ruins of Righteous, and returned with the Shard of Life. Masamune focused on the offensive, cutting deep into Carsai as he in turn rended open Anastasia's armor. Then Lea joined the melee, marking her arrival by cutting Anastasia down...   Wyatt pointed his gun at Abelina, and fired four shots into her face.   Only by quick work from Flay — activating the defensive ability granted to her as a System party leader — was Abelina able to survive. The lessons Abelina had learned from the Arcanist bore fruit, as Lockette and Mist ripped Chamas from Crow's essence, and Mist deployed the Blessing of the Shield of Light to ward against Wyatt's further betrayal. Now freed, Chamas screamed Denial, breaking Carsai's hold on their surroundings. Wyatt's flesh began to slough away, as Mist recognized the skeletal frame of Ising, and announced his presence to their allies. But this did not stop the Skinless from overwhelming Regulus, ripping the Starstone from his hands, taking the artifacts power as his own.   Kesil and Tesin Movahesh arrived to stop the mysterious Skinless from overwhelming their position, later joined by Caesura and Helen, who bore some kind of grudge against him. Carrot arrived with Szuriel, his eyes alight with the Eshtayiv, seemingly inconsolable after the loss of his children. He tore Gris in half, freeing up Lockette to absorb Lea into her Tool-infused molecular borer, the fire inside the weapon taking on new form.   Ferro and Tera followed Apollyon and Trelmarixian to the Steps, but were unable to stop them from rushing through. House Blackblood reported heavy losses. Keeping his fury bound inside, Masamune ignored the distractions, overwhelming Carsai and at last cutting him down. The essences of Crow's Anticipations fled through the Steps, just as Crow and Bast began to clash in the skies above them, two storms manifesting the opposition of their ideals.   The battle with Ising entered the timeless realm reserved for gods, a fog only Isra had been able to penetrate, broken at last as Mist dove into the warping — an act both foolish and courageous, and that may soon spell his end... For as he arrived, he saw only disaster.   Kesil, his heart removed but still beating in Ising's hand. Helen held aloft in the other, Ising's thumb digging through her skull. Skittles and Tesin Movahesh both unconscious, their weapons buried uselessly in Ising's flesh. Regulus on his knees, still defiant, but guarding the mess that was now his left eye. Caesura, burying his Scythe over and over into his opponent's chest, but to no avail. Mist and Ising met eyes, the latter's hollow sockets now glowing with the light of the Starstone...   And time stood still.

Notes

This was one of those games where something didn't happen every turn, it happened every round. A very difficult session to capture, and I'd bet it's only going to get worse as we move forward...   To the Sideways Steps!
