Chamas

Chamas

Chamas is a Lashuntan mercenary from Castrovel, and a member of the Dream Team. He was previously a part of the Warchief Program of Project 9, but flunked out of the program after failing to meet the psych profile, and joined the Sunrise Collective instead. After the Malikah Conflict, he served time as a war criminal under the wardenship of Mist, until he was given a system-wide pardon at the 317 AG Pact Summit.   Chamas is the older brother of both Annwen and Idryll, and is romantically involved with Abelina Tremont. He is also the bearer of the Mantle of Odium.

Personal history

Chamas was born to a poor family on Castrovel, raised by an alcoholic, abusive father and a sickly mother. After a terrible night of drinking, Chamas' father murdered his mother in a blind rage, and then forced young Chamas to hide the body — who completed the task on his own to shield his siblings from the horror. As the abuse continued, Chamas became increasingly protective of Annwen and Idryll, and worked extra shifts to keep the family afloat. One day, after returning to find Idryll missing, Chamas learned that his father had sold his younger brother to a slave market, and was planning on doing the same to Annwen. Some days later, Chamas' father was found cut up into pieces in their kitchen, and Chamas and Annwen were never seen in the neighborhood again.   From then on, Chamas supported his sister through the criminal underbelly of Qabarat, specifically those with pro-Lashunta agendas. Ironically, this led to both him and Annwen being accepted into the Warchief Program for Project 9, although neither were aware of Idryll's involvement with the organization at the time. Chamas eventually failed out of the program due to a mismatched psych profile, but Annwen was accepted to their ranks, and quickly separated herself from her brother. At the time, Chamas believed this was due to his lack of usefulness, but later learned she was forced to abandon him via Idryll's psychic manipulations.   With nowhere to go, Chamas took jobs all over the galaxy, working as a mercenary for AbadarCorp, the Aspis Consortium, and the Free Captains. Eventually, Chamas was pulled back to his roots, working for the pro-Lashunta Sunrise Collective on the Burning Archipelago. He was apprehended by Asanatown authorities after his defeat by the Dream Team, and later picked up by Mist, who hoped to reform him.   In the ensuing weeks after the Malikah Conflict, Chamas showed himself to be a man full of anger, but far from a lost cause. He watched over Mist as he recovered from the effects of a Night Apple — a task he shared with Abelina Tremont, which later led to the two of them becoming romantically close. He was devastated after her capture on the Forge, leading to his procurement of the Mantle of Odium, which has put him on a path of revenge ever since.   After the Pact Summit Chamas was pardoned for his deeds at the Malikah Conflict, but was summarily struck by tragedy at the gala, after a bullet meant for Mist killed the Lashunta (thus triggering the Slayer of Rastel-Kin blessing). He was reborn in the ruins of Project 9's old headquarters, which they had just begun to rebuild after the death of Unari Dama sent shockwaves throughout Ukulam. There he was horrified to find Annwen controlled by her younger brother, acting like a subservient executioner, and the prison's lead torturer.   While Idryll was able to contain Odium for several months, Chamas eventually broke free of his prison with the aid of Mandarb, taking Annwen and the other prisoners with him, and rejoined the Dream Team on Ezorod.   His primary goals are now to free Abelina, cure Annwen, and keep his budding family together.

Mental Trauma

Chamas' terrible upbringing and a lifetime of mercenary work have left his mental state extremely fragile, leading him to shut down all of his emotions save his bloodlust. Until very recently, Chamas rarely had a thought outside killing an enemy, bedding a woman, or taking care of his trust companion Squak. Anything outside these barriers still makes Chamas somewhat uncomfortable, maybe even retaliating with violence against strangers -- especially if he knows he could easily win the fight.

Morality & Philosophy

Chamas firmly believes that problems do not age well, and that the only way to stop something from aging is to kill it. While he cares for the lives of his teammates, he seems undisturbed by the deaths of others, and is fully willing to murder a stranger if it makes his life easier. However, like many of the criminal underworld, Chamas draws the line at children, and has terminated his employment (and his employers) when that line is crossed.
