Shield of Light

(a.k.a. The Shield)

Although often depicted as a humanoid holding a shield, the Shield of Light has never taken a mortal form, and instead is a sentient object of holy might. This Saint cares for little but the safety of goodly mortals, and regularly intervenes in cosmic conflicts between the mundane and the divine. This has earned it the ire of many deities, but its indifference is reminiscent of a computer process - its main priority is the defined function it was given upon creation.   Many believers think that the Shield of Light is an artifact of the shattering of Aroden, or perhaps an artifact left behind after Torag's disappearance. Both Iomedae and Angradd deny these claims, but provide no other conclusions.   The Shield's most prominent relationship is with the Hunter, who is said to be the Saint's divine opposite. The two entities seem to have an ancient relationship, but neither have shared the details, and the two will avoid each other whenever possible. The Roaring Justice, the Matriarch, and the Sunmaiden are all allies of the Shield, as their ultimate goals closely align.

Blessing of the Shield of Light

Range: Single Source, Any Negative Effect
Action: Reaction
Duration: See Text   When invoking the Blessing of the Shield of Light, a holy barrier separates the caster from all harm, and glows with the fury of a thousand suns. When targeted by an attack, spell, spell-like ability, supernatural ability, natural hazard, or any similar action or effect that would cause the caster harm, they may negate it with this Blessing. The duration of this Blessing is equal to the harmful action and its side effects (e.g. a spell that creates a poison gas protects from the spell and the gas).   This ability has no negative aftereffect.
