The River Kingdoms

"First and foremost we are a people of trade and wealth. We are not greedy nor avaricious, we simply acknowledge that money and contracts will take you far in this world. If you barter for something, it is only right that you give what you should and receive what you are owed. If you are promised a favor, it is not wrong of you to call upon it at any time. We are competitive, sure, but hardly violent." Patriarch Tyrian Meadows, of House Duchatii

Geography

The River Kingdoms are filled with its namesake rivers, flowing to the ocean and into the heart of the region. The land itself is dotted with numerous forests, lakes, plains, natural bays, among many other geographical features. Most notably to the west of this region lies The Sundered Peaks. Despite the vast array of geographical features, however, most of the population tend to stick near to the rivers as they are large enough for barges and even larger trade vessels to navigate along to trade within the major ports within.   To the north of the River Kingdoms lie The Border Mountains which separate the region from the fair people of the region from the savage Valnir. A craggy wall of mountains that formed a natural barrier. There is one main pass that is guarded by the fortress of Dawnbreak. The true purpose of Dawnbreak, however, is not to keep the Valnir out, as they have many important and exotic goods that can be sold to the greater River Kingdoms. No, instead it is the orcs and goblins that patrol and ravage the pass that Dawnbreak really protects from to keep them from pressing south and rampaging across the farmland.   Along the west of the River Kingdoms lies The Sundered Peaks, said to be filled with lost dwarven holds, and untold riches. Of course, despite the many dwarven treasure vaults that lie hidden high in the mountain peaks, there is much danger and mystery surrounding it. Many locals prefer to stay away from the area, believing it to be haunted due to the fact that the dwarves were driven out of their ancestral homes. Of course, despite the many years since they inhabited there homes, they are rallying behind Lord Volnus as he pushes for the dwarves to return to the mountains once more and reclaim their holds one by one.   Of course, the River Kingdoms are home to a vast many great rivers that span the region, none so great, however, as the River Cormyr which reaches from the ocean to the east all the way to the old capital of the region at Port Tah'mal. This is one of the largest trade centers in the region where goods from far-away exotic lands anchor at the natural in-land bay and harbor, guarded from larger vessels of war by the river, and still being protected by the city guards.
