The Mithril Hills

Overview

Lord Volnus commands The Mithril Hills with a level of discipline not often seen. His lands within The River Kingdoms are organized with trade caravans moving through the land and patrols and garrisons set up where they need to be. What makes him different is his seeming lack of desire for the crown of The Kingdom of Venithyr, instead he preaches returning to The Sundered Pantheon and reclaiming his lost home. To his benefit, many of the dwarves from that locale had resettled into the southern-most region which is, in part, how it gained its namesake. Dwarven Guildmasters and Tradesmen both support his push to rebuild The Azkor Grongi.

History

The Mithril Hills is the locale where the dwarves from the Azkor Grongi had resettled after being forced out of their homes ages ago. There is a lot of history and craftsmanship that came with their exodus. While some dwarves still maintain scattered mountain holds, many had left. It took them some time, but many adapted to living away from the mountains, as difficult as it was. Luckily, they did have some help from the humans of the region. The Mithril Hills itself was only founded in recent times, with Lord Volnus gaining the support of the local dwarven population as he rallied them to push back into the mountains. This, of course, has lead to the other leaders being very cautious of his true intentions, believing he is just using it as a cover so that he might swoop in and claim the crown of The Kingdom of Venithyr, especially since he seems to have some level of support form The Kingseekers.

Foreign Relations

Lord Volnus and The Mithril Hills appear to be wholly disinterested in trying for the crown of The Kingdom of Venithyr which has raised a good level of suspicion but no one is willing to push their luck and attempt to fight him and his armies, especially given that many dwarves have also rallied under his banner, making them even harder to fight in a conflict. Because of this, many of the other leaders have a somewhat tense or cautious peace with The Mithril Hills, keeping an eye on them but not attempting any form of conflict.   Venithyr seems to be the only one willing to push Lord Volnus as they are the only ones who are skirmishing at his border, granted, it is only a few light raids here and there, and only to keep the guards active and ready on the border. Luckily, it has not devolved into enough of a problem for The Mithril Hills to send forces north, and thus far they have only reinforced their border guard against Patriarch Egalis Casconne II.   On the flip side, The Eastern Trade Company under Patriarch Quintex Whiteshore seems to be favoring trade with the dwarven craftsmen and artisans. They often send caravans to the major cities of The Mithril Hills to buy the mastercrafted goods to bring back to the ports to sell for a profit. This is, of course, beneficial to both sides and in fact, Lord Volnus has even provided guards for some of the larger caravans while traveling through his land.   Matriarch Griselda de Valen seems to simply be erring on the side of caution. Simply watching the dwarves to the south with a keen eye to ensure that they do not attempt anything that might get in her way. Zenithyr is too far to be a threat to The Mithril HIlls anyway, and so Lord Volnus simply ignores the Matriarch's gaze.   There seems to be a level of understanding between The Kingseekers and The Mithril Hills. Neither seems particularly interested in the other and so allow trade and travel to happen freely between the regions. While the dwarves seem to be focused on The Sundered Peaks, High Priestess Xanthia and her followers are instead focused on attempting to find the one fit to rule The Kingdom of Venithyr.
