Zenithyr (Zen-ith-ear)
Overview
Lead by Matriarch Griselda de Valen, Zenithyr is the northern faction that splintered from The Kingdom of Venithyr. While Griselda makes no claim through virtue of blood or authority to the crown, she does have the support of the families in the north. Given her exceptional foresight and ability to read the passages of the future, many support her claim simply because she seems to believe she is going to win in the end, as many of her predictions have seemingly come true. Through virtue of her own actions or sheer luck, it is unknown. However, the other aspect that she does have some level of respect for is that she has constantly aided and supplied Dawnbreak when orcs and goblins from The Border Mountains have attacked in an attempt to push south.History
Despite being a fledgling nation with no desire to remain after the end of the war, Zenithyr is still powerful in its own right. It is one of many factions in a war for The Kingdom of Venithyr. Zenithyr was, in some ways, named due to the name of the previous kingdom, however, there is some rough translation that can be done to give it meaning, which makes it roughly 'Between Peaks.' Matriarch Griselda de Valen was chosen to lead them as she is the one with the most power and influence in the region and has been very kind and shown an apt mind for trade, and so they believe she will be the most beneficial on the throne. However, the northern region, despite only being nearby to three of the four opposing factions, still has to keep a watchful eye north towards The Border Mountains in case the orcs and goblins attack en masse, making it difficult for them to make any significant progress south. They have sent numerous envoys and have voiced near constant support for The Kingseekers as well in an attempt to hopefully rally them behind Matriarch Griselda and gain the support of the western region of The River Kingdoms.
Foreign Relations
Despite being in a relatively safe and defensible location with The Border Mountains to the north, and an expanse of otherwise defensible land, Zenithyr is not in a great position to expand. They need to keep a sizable location at Dawnbreak to ensure that raiding parties and warbands from the mountain pass do not go too far south. Beyond that, they have a large front line between The Kingseekers, who they are trying to gain the support of, Venithyr who they are in open warfare with, and the Eastern Trade Company whom they are skirmishing with.
Matriarch Griselda de Valen is attempting desperately to gain the support of The Kingseekers, despite being told numerous times it will never happen. She believes that with their support she can safely assume the crown without further necessary bloodshed. So, she constantly sends gifts and makes a public display of worship towards Jaclyn, Queen of the Heavens in hopes that maybe she might finally gain their support, as unlikely as it seems.
Zenithyr as a whole is in open conflict with Venithyr, they are attempting to take the capital of Port Tah'mal in hopes that with it, they will gain the support of the families within and a strong defensive location within the central region. Beyond that, Matriarch Griselda de Valen believes that controlling the capital will further solidify her position to assume the crown.
Despite not being a total all-out war, there is still heavy tension and near constant border skirmishes between Zenithyr and the Eastern Trade Company, as they are attempting to prob and test the waters, hoping to perhaps swoop in and seal off the rivers so that they might cripple the trade into Venithyr and hold their wealth hostage for their support.
Finally, despite the distance there is a significant level of caution towards Lord Volnus and The Mithril Hills. The Matriarch is uncertain as to his true intentions and whether or not he does simply plan on marching into The Sundered Peaks to reclaim the dwarven homelands or if he plans on making a play for the crown.
