Venithyr (Ven-ith-ear)
Overview
Venithyr is one of five warring factions that are part of The Kingdom of Venithyr. They are lead by Patriarch Egalis Casconne II. Many from the neighboring factions believe that Egalis is little more than a pretender and false king, pointing to the fact that the previous High King, Egalis Casconne, did not have any children during his time as ruler, nor prior. However, Egalis Casconne II counters this by stating that he is the bastard son of the previous High King. Because of this and his popularity and seeming rags to riches background in recent times, many people in Port Tah'mal have rallied behind him and the ruling families around the central region of the The River Kingdoms have pledged support for his cause, attempting to install him as their High King.History
Venithyr is relatively new, having been created only a few years prior, however, it has already begun making strides despite it's relatively short lifespan, involving itself in a war for control of The Kingdom of Venithyr. The name was taken up in order to further show 'legitimacy' in Egalis Casconne II's claim to the throne and build support for him as a sort of 'heir' to the title of High King and to gain the support that prior children of the monarch have earned in the past. Given the fact that Venithyr is located central of the five factions attempting to gain control of the region, they are in a very precarious spot. They have the rivers running alongside Port Tah'mal to transport goods and supplies throughout the area, but their trade is wholly dependent on the Eastern Trade Company as they control many of the rivers heading inland.
Foreign Relations
Venithyr is in a precarious position, while they are at some form of peace with some of the other factions that make up The Kingdom of Venithyr, there is a lot of mistrust and paranoia, rightfully so as each faction desires the kingship in some form or another. This creates a difficult environment as no one can focus their military on a singular opponent and thus the conflict has largely stagnated with it becoming more of a game of politics.
Venithyr is at a tense peace with the Eastern Trade Company as they both benefit from keeping the trade along the rivers flowing. They will lose a lot of traffic if they close off the rivers to Port Tah'mal and other locations further in-land. So while not in open conflict, both are watching each other and waiting for a weakness to exploit over the over to gain the support of the families under them.
On the other hand, Venithyr is in open conflict with The Kingseekers. High Priestess Xanthia believes that Egalis Casconne II is a pretender and upstart attempting to abuse a fabricated relation to the prior High King in order to gain favor. This has created a very tense situation and due to neither backing down from their claim, they have boiled over into war.
The other faction Venithyr is as war with is Zenithyr, lead by Matriarch Griselda de Valen. Theres is a simple war of conflict of interests. While the Matriarch has a strong support in the north, she feels she needs to take control of Port Tah'mal in order to start gaining traction in the central region and thus has been attempting to prod and skirmish along the border to push south.
The enigma to Venithyr is The Mithril Hills, lead by Lord Volnus. They seem totally disinterested in the kingship. Instead, seeming to focus on The Sundered Peaks and retaking it. Egalis Casconne II, however, does not trust this move and keeps a heavy patrol on the border in case Volnus is attempting to distract him and then claim his land when he believes he is safe.
