The Sundered Pantheon

Overview

The Sundered Pantheon is the pantheon that the dwarves of The Sundered Peaks call their own. It consists of nine gods which cover all aspects of life for them. Their people are a proud and stoic sort with a mind for the crafts and for architecture. Unfortunately, their home was lost long ago, and their religion is one of the few aspects of their old life that they manage to cling to. They are trying to reclaim their ancestral home, as difficult as it may be, and perhaps restore both their pantheon and their people to its former glory.

The Gods

The nine gods of the Sundered Pantheon are varied and different in their own right. Some being dwarves who are believed to have ascended as they are masters of their craft, others have simply been around as long as the dwarves can remember. Regardless at to their origin, they still venerate their deities with all the respect that they deserve.

Aegis, The Shieldbearer

The Dwarves have never been known for being offensive in battle. Instead, they will form shield walls and absorb the blow, letting you break yourselves on their heavy armor. Aegis, the Shieldbearer is the one who represents this. Depicted as a dwarf in full plate armor, a sword and shield in hand, Aegis is the venerated God of the very combat style that dwarves tend to favor.   Domains:
  • Protection
  • Warfare
  • Defense

Gorefang, Stalker of the Halls

A large wolf with fur that is seems to glitter and sparkle as though mithril. Gorefang, Stalker of the Halls, ancient enemy and predator of the dwarves. Gorefang is, in many ways, the dwarven boogyman, the one that they tell children about to ensure they behave, among other things. However, many dwarves fear and think that Gorefang is the one truly responsible for the destruction of their ancient kingdom and reason that many of their halls now lie abandoned.   Domains:
  • Death
  • Fear
  • Hunt

Althild, The Last Defender

Althild, The Last Defender, said to be a stout dwarven woman who held the line against whatever it was that drove their people out of their homes. Althild is venerated as the deity of self-sacrifice and unity. The one who gave it all so that her people may live and perhaps, one day, reclaim their home. She is depicted as a stout dwarven woman in chainmail with a warhammer, and venerated whenever one is about to make some sort of sacrifice.   Domains:
  • Sacrifice
  • Solidarity
  • Honor

Magnus, The High King

Magnus, The High King of the Gods. Magnus is said to have granted Azkor'nahal to the first High King of The Sundered Peaks. Magnus is depicted on a throne made of gems and other precious materials at all times, a crown sat firmly on his head and a stern look in his face. Worship of Magnus is not common for most dwarves, as he is seen as a more private deity for the nobility and kings of their people, as he is most associated with them.   Domains:
  • Nobility
  • Rulership
  • Strategy

Marduum, The Underlord

Marduum, The Underlord, or The Father of Souls. Marduum is a strange one for the dwarves due to the broad range of domains he cover. It means he is both a deity associated with evil, but also with the simple balance of life and death, and who ushers the souls of the dwarves to the afterlife. It all depends on how he's worshiped. He is depicted as a dark-haired dwarf is a sneer on his face, holding a scale and a brutal cudgel. He is venerated when a dwarf passes or to give thanks to the ancestors.   Domains:
  • Souls
  • Balance
  • Death

Kul, Lord of Runes

The Runelord, and the architect of the halls. Kul, Lord of Runes, patron of the Runesmiths, those whose arts animate and bring life to the dwarven holds. Kul is depicted as an engineer of sorts, with goggles, a set of tools in hand, among other trappings of his craft. He encourages curiosity in everything. While many runesmiths prefer tradition over new discovery, Kul seems to favor those who try to attempt to create new runes, successful or not.   Domains:
  • Runesmithing
  • Discovery
  • Architecture

Yolbryn, Matron of Life

The Sundered Pantheon has only one deity that governs most aspects of life. From simple personal freedoms down to motherhood and birth. Yolbryn, Matron of Life, the god who was said to first show favor to the dwarves and their resilience. Yolbryn is depicted as a dwarf woman who is clad in fine silks with runic inlays. She is worshiped by most dwarves generally. She is their caretaker and provides them with all they need to live and continue building a legacy that will last for centuries. Furthermore, many assume that Yolbryn is the only dwarf who has managed to win the heart of Magnus, who claims her as his wife.   Domains:
  • Life
  • Freedom
  • Rebirth

Brosgril, The Forgemaster

Of course, dwarves would have a patron of artisans and all those who craft, be it for beauty or for war. Brosgril, the Forgemaster embodies this role wholeheartedly. He is the smithing god but also the god who watches over the artisans and provides them with a patron. He is, of course, depicted as a rugged smith, laboring over an anvil with a hammer raised high above his head. He is said to have crafted the crown which the King of the Sundered Peaks wears upon his brow, Milranthar. Artisans, smiths, everyone dedicated to a trade tends to pay homage to Brosgril both for protection and for inspiration.   Domains:
  • Smithing
  • Trades
  • Creativity

Galigad, The Warmaster

Galigad, The Warmaster, He Who Rent The Mountains, among many other titles, is the patron of the warriors of the Sundered Peaks. Galigad was said to have been a king from ages past, and a fine strategist. He is depicted in robes with a crown on his brow, usually studying a map. It is also said that in the past, Galigad is the one who originally conquered the mountains that the dwarves call home, and that it is he who originally forged the Azkor Grongi. Almost every warrior who venerates the gods of The Sundered Pantheon carry a token dedicated to Galigad and prey to him before each battle.   Domains:
