About Solaris | Guide to Solaris | Prologue

The Pirate Queen

Pirate Queen Lexi Lazarus first rose to infamy during the Catamite Wars. He participated as the leader of a Mercenary air squad in the attack on Galileo Spaceport. Despite the moniker, the criminal record and the exhaustive list of crimes he is currently wanted for, Lexi Lazarus enjoys the high life on Saturn.   As Pirate Queen, Lazarus functions as the face of a wider organization of privateers, smugglers and cartels. A fixer of fixers, Lexi is rarely involved in connecting aspiring pirates with brokers, instead ensuring that the fabric of the pirate society remains intact. He might smooth over disputes between power players, call meetings to deal with problems affecting the collective, and most importantly ensures that he remains firmly on top via favors, incentives, and sometimes a plain show of force.   Lazarus identifies as a butch lesbian. He is nonbinary, choosing feminine titles but preferring he/him pronouns. On the talk show Spotlight Lazarus shared a story about a former colleague. The collegue insisted on calling him miss all throughout a meeting. Lazarus says he tallied up the total of misses, and "made sure to give him something to truly miss for each of them". When prodded for details, Lazarus smirked and alluded to wooing his wife and funding her divorce lawyers.

Lexi Lazarus keeps a pretty tight lid on his early life. He has no known family, leading to rumours that his first crime involved clearing the slate. Lexi Lazarus has yet to confirm or deny the rumours. A Martian peacekeeper once tried to argue that a finger gun in response counted as a confession, but it was deemed inadmissible by the courts.

'A Martian peacekeeper once tried to argue that a finger gun in response counted as a confession, but it was deemed inadmissible by the courts.' Hahahaha.   I love how you've done the shading on his face.

Thank you! Lexi feels to me like the sort of character who'd give a different story every time he was asked.

At first I was confused, then I was delighted. I can see the Pirate Queen smirking and guns blazing raiding other ships... great work as always. :)

I love the idea of a non-binary person who uses feminine pronouns and he/him pronouns. Would not want to be that colleague.

Check out Natural Magic : a coming of age fantasy novel, because life is hard enough when you're fourteen, even without saving the world. Or listen to it in podcast form .

Thanks! I like to think fiction can be a good place for people to get familiar to new thing, like how gender might seem contradictory at times. Then we might avoid doing things like that colleague did!
