King/Queen of Eleonis
The King or Queen of Eleonis is the ruler of the Kingdom of Eleonis.
Requirements
Since the title is heredetary, the most important requirement is to be related to or appointed by the previous King or Queen. If the heir is under the age of 12, an interim ruler must be instated, though this rule never actually came into play in eleonian history. In historical cases of successors between the ages of 12 and 19, instead of an interim ruler, the young successor was given the title, but they were supported by an older mentor figure, for example their mother or an uncle.
Appointment
The title is bestowed upon a person in a coronation ceremony, which is usually officiated by a person schooled in the ways of the Faith of the Four Elements under an old oak. The title has been passed down from father to son in the past. Only very rarely and only in cases where there was no male relative to be found, the title was passed to a daughter. This is, however changing, as current King Ionathar Angeleos has changed the wording of that law from "firstborn son" to "firstborn child".
Responsibilities
The King or Queen of Eleonis is sworn to lead and protect the people and lands of Eleonis (in that order). Specifically, this includes listening to the people's opinions and complaints and coordinate solutions, taking care of the Kingdom's diplomatic relations and leading the defence of the Kingdom in times of war.
Accoutrements & Equipment
The ruler of Eleonis is given a crown and a sword during the coronation ceremony. The Eleonian Crown is made from Eleonian Silver mined in the Silver Mountains and decorated with five differently coloured jewels representing the five Lordships that were united into the Kingdom of Eleonis. During the 600 years of united eleonian history, there have been multiple royal swords. The current one is a longsword from Dragonsteel known as the Sword of the Lion.
Grounds for Removal/Dismissal
Usually, the King or Queen rules from their coronation to their death. During eleonian history, more than one ruler has been removed with force. Very rarely a ruler has stepped down voluntarily.
