The
Helerin Archipelago is home to many wondrous beings and creatures of
magic. Legends and tales guess at the nature and origin of these fantastic beings. However, these are not merely myths or stories, but potent forces that shape the nature and destiny of the regions they inhabit. Some act as vengeful or malevolent spirits that strike fear into those who wander too close, while others are protectors and enigmatic figures whose actions influence the balance of life and death.
From the storm-lashed coasts of
Remon to the shadowed depths of
Teros's forests, these beings are woven into the fabric of local culture, feared and revered in equal measure. The tales of these creatures serve as a reminder of the ancient powers that still linger in the wild places of Helerin, defying human understanding and control. Whether they entered the world in the chaos following the death of
Dassantarra, or whether they are far older, none have discovered.
Some of the better-known beings are listed below.
Remon
Borrak, known as the Colossus, slumbers in the barren expanse of the Stonelands. This massive, stone-skinned giant is said to have been created by ancient magics, perhaps as a guardian or a weapon. Borrak only stirs when the land itself is threatened, rising from the earth to crush those who would despoil the Stonelands. His presence is both awe-inspiring and terrifying, and his movements cause the very ground to tremble.
The Guardian of the Falls appears as a solitary figure standing watch over the crossings of the great falls of the
Banrak where the river cascades down from the
Grimcrags. The Guardian does not speak, but his intentions are clear: none shall pass without proving their worth.
Searak, the Great Drake, is a massive, dragon-like creature that sleeps in a cave deep within the Wyrmwood. It is an ancient and terrifying presence, feared by all who live near the forest. Searak awakens only occasionally to hunt, its fiery breath and immense strength making it nearly unstoppable. The Norrans of Remon have long told tales of this beast, warning of its wrath and the destruction it brings.
Thalriss, the Stormrider, is a fearsome figure who appears along the coasts of
Remon during violent storms. Riding the winds and waves, Thalriss is believed to be a spirit of the sea, a being of pure elemental fury. Sailors and coastal dwellers both fear and respect the Stormrider as a vassal of
Treca, goddess of storms. They know that his wrath can sink ships and flood towns, but also bring much-needed rains and bountiful catches.
Forbin
The Piper is a haunting figure who wanders the
Nythran Forest, playing a flute that controls the animals of the woods. His music can soothe or enrage, leading creatures to protect or attack those who enter the forest.
Shaal-Denir may be encountered in the wilds of
Westrun, appearing as a beautiful woman. She is a trickster, leading travellers astray and stealing or hiding their possessions. Shaal-Denir is not malicious, but her games can be dangerous for the unwary or foolish.
Thaskra is a harbinger of death and despair, lurking in the treacherous cliffs of
Cape Gilia. Sailors and travellers speak of seeing a dark figure standing on the edge of the cliffs, its gaze fixed on the horizon as if waiting for something - or someone. Those who have encountered Thaskra describe an overwhelming sense of dread and an unnatural cold that saps the life from them.
The Twins are enigmatic beings who dwell in the heart of the
Boswood, a dense and ancient forest. They appear as two identical figures, always moving in unison, and are said to possess powers over life and death. The Twins are neither wholly good nor evil; they are forces of nature, balancing the cycle of life within the forest.
Mar Mabon
The Lady of Flames is a fiery being who roams the burning sands of the
Curmon Desert. She is both a destructive force and a figure of great beauty. The Lady of Flames appears as a woman wreathed in fire, her touch leaving trails of molten glass in the sand. Some see her as a vengeful spirit, while others believe she guards something precious hidden deep within the desert's heart.
Karrith, known as the Hermit, dwells alone in the searing heat of the
Burning Peaks. This ancient being is a figure of wisdom and power, having lived for centuries in isolation. Karrith is said to possess knowledge of the deepest secrets of magic, but he is reclusive and rarely shares his wisdom. Those who seek him out must prove themselves worthy.
Teros
Braltak is a grotesque, bloated creature that lies in wait in the murky swamps of
Festermere. This entity, often described as a monstrous, corpulent being, delights in drowning its victims, pulling them under the fetid waters where they meet a grim fate.
Falloru is a legendary hunter who prowls the shadowy depths of the
Drujin Forest in the wilds of Teros. He is an apex predator, respected and feared by all who know of him. Falloru hunts not just for sustenance but for sport, taking delight in stalking his prey.
The Feaster is a malevolent entity that haunts the
Isle of Bones, a desolate place shrouded in mist and mystery. Legends say that the Feaster devours the souls of those who are lured to the island by strange, haunting whispers.
Goltarax lurks deep within the treacherous caverns of the
Clouded Crags. A monstrous golem of amber crystal, Goltarax guards his subterranean realm jealously. He cannot be bargained with or appeased.
The Soth-Larr is a malevolent being that haunts the ruins of
Horr Fathin in the
Plains of Zarroth, a creature of darkness and whispers. Those few who have glimpsed it describe the Soth-Larr as a vaguely humanoid figure, but constantly shifting and changing, as though its form is made of shadows and smoke.

Vistrar, a people who revere the wind, Alynoth is both a protector and a trickster. He might guide travellers safely through storms or lead them astray for his amusement.
The Pedlar is a mysterious figure who travels the roads and paths of Helerin, appearing in towns and villages to buy and sell strange and magical items. His wares are said to be as varied as they are dangerous, with objects of power hidden among trinkets and baubles. He never stays long in one place, and those who deal with him often find his goods come at a high price.
