Months of the year

The year beings on the day of the Winter Solstice, and is divided into twelve months of 26 days each.   Many festivals and other events take place throughout the year. Many of these are religious in nature, giving thanks to the gods, and are often tied to farming, fishing or other activities.

1 - Turning

8-9°C, 2.7 - 2.2mm daily rainfall

Turning marks the start of the new year with cool weather and diminishing rainfall. The Turn festival, celebrated at the start of the month, honours the transition of seasons. The people give thanks to Balcosh, celebrating the light returning after the winter solstice.   Coastal communities fish squid and Oshpaddum, while shallow waters teem with Passu and Shassfuni. Inland, preparations begin for the planting of winter vegetables.

2 - Oathing

9-11°C, 2.2 - 2mm daily rainfall

In Oathing, the first Heavensday brings Oathsday, where people renew their vows of loyalty to gods, lords, and family.   The rains continue to dwindle, and fishing focuses on squid and Dergam along the coast. Inland, the planting of vegetable crops continues. Passu and Shassfuni thrive in shallow waters.

3 - Windrise

11-16°C, 2 - 1.6mm daily rainfall

Windrise sees strong winds and warming temperatures. The Stormquell festival on the vernal equinox honors Treca, while inland, lambing begins later in the month.   Sea fishing focuses on Reestlash and Dolki, while river fish like Zaribon and Darvion become abundant.

4 - Girysal

16-21°C, 1.5 - 1.4mm daily rainfall

Girysal brings warmer, drier weather. The Firstbake festival marks the beginning of baking with this year's grain harvest, while fishing peaks with Melmakkir and Reestlash in the seas. This is a period of abundance for coastal communities.   Inland, Melfinon and Nylotha are commonly caught.

5 - Fairsky

21-26°C, 1.4 - 1.3mm daily rainfall

Fairsky continues the warming trend, and fishing becomes bountiful with Melmakkir, Jashatt, and river catches of Jolmakri and Nylotha. Ocean's Bounty, a festival to Jires, honours the sea’s bounty in coastal towns.   Bloodshores in the Seynan Islands celebrates the whale hunt.

6 - Hometides

26-30°C, 1.2 - 1mm daily rainfall

In Hometides, the summer solstice marks the Bal Manthra festival, where the people give thanks to Balcosh for the light of the sun.   Fishing efforts are focused on Reestlash, Bellim-Ban, and Oshpaddum, while inland rivers yield Jolmakri and Zaribon.

7 - Bladestill

30-34°C, 0.9 - 0.6mm daily rainfall

Bladestill is a hot and dry month. Fishing peaks with Reestlash, Dolki, and Bellim-Ban in coastal waters, while inland, Jolmakri and Rethanal continue to sustain communities.   The Day of the Slain honours those lost in battle, with offerings to Piatok and Frenar.

8 - Redtides

In Redtides, the waters calm, and fishing efforts focus on Jashatt and Melmakkir, with squid becoming increasingly abundant. Inland rivers yield catches of Rethanal and Thalkar.   As the weather begins to cool, the grape harvest begins, marking the start of the winemaking season.

9 - Huntscall

29-23°C, 0.8 - 1.8mm daily rainfall

Huntscall signals the return of wetter weather and cooling temperatures.   Jashatt, Melmakkir, and Dolki are fished in large numbers, while inland rivers provide Zaribon, Nylotha, and Melfinon.   Tree fruits and nut harvests dominate the middle of the month, as communities prepare for the autumn equinox.

10 - Lan Kulal

23-17°C, 1.9 - 3.1mm daily rainfall

Lan Kulal is celebrated with the Sheathing festival, signaling the end of hunting season, and the Passing festival, where followers of Balcosh offer prayers of reflection.   Fishing efforts shift to Jashatt, Reestlash, and Melmakkir as the weather cools. Inland rivers remain productive, and Boughbend marks the harvest of tree fruits and nuts.

11 - Pressing
