Darvion

The Darvion is a prized freshwater fish known for its delicate flavor and graceful presence in the slow-moving rivers of Helerin. It is a staple in the diets of many communities and is particularly sought after for its tender meat, which is enjoyed in various dishes throughout the archipelago.

Physical Appearance

The Darvion is a medium-sized fish, growing up to two feet in length. It has a sleek, streamlined body that glides effortlessly through calm waters. Its most striking feature is its bright red fins, which contrast against its silvery-blue scales, making it easily recognizable. The Darvion's body is elongated, tapering toward its tail, and its scales glisten in sunlight, giving it a vibrant, almost iridescent quality.

Habitat

Darvion thrive in slow-moving rivers, particularly in the realms of Forbin and Teros. They prefer the serene, shallow waters where reeds and aquatic plants provide ample cover. These fish are often found near riverbanks, where they feed on small insects, algae, and other vegetation. The slower pace of these rivers allows Darvion to move gracefully through the water, rarely encountering predators that would normally thrive in faster currents.

Behaviour

Darvion are relatively peaceful fish, moving in small schools. They tend to stay close to riverbeds or plant-covered riverbanks, where they feed on small aquatic insects and algae. During the spring, Darvion move upstream to spawn in the shallower waters, where their eggs are laid in clusters among reeds and other river plants. While they are not aggressive creatures, Darvion are known to be elusive and quick to dart away at the first sign of danger, making them a challenging catch for less experienced fishers.

Geographic Distribution

Darvion are commonly found in the rivers of Forbin and Teros. They are most abundant in the calm, slow-flowing waters of central Forbin and southern Teros, where their natural habitat remains undisturbed. Their presence diminishes in regions with faster-flowing or more turbulent rivers, as they prefer the gentle pace of slower waterways.

Interaction with People

Darvion are highly prized for their delicious, tender meat, which has a mild and slightly sweet flavor. They are often baked or grilled, and their red fins are considered a delicacy when prepared properly. Fisherfolk rely on Darvion as a reliable food source, particularly during the spring spawning season when the fish are most plentiful. Darvion are caught using nets or spears, and many riverside communities celebrate seasonal festivals when Darvion catches are at their peak. Their importance to local diets has made Darvion a cherished part of life in river-adjacent towns.
