Jackar Locke-Leonine
Jackar Locke- Leonine
Childhood
Jackar was born in 394KS to Melvan Somercrag, the younger brother of Queen Arrely Somercrag, and ser Xanner Vass, a Hedge Knight in the service of the royal household. With the Queen's son Crown Prince Samuel Somercrag already near grown, Melvan took his nephew Larris Somercrag's lead, giving his daughter a name that made clear her distance from the main-line of House Somercrag of Bayglen.
Jackar grew up amongst the royal household, close in age and temper with Boggs Leonhart, her first cousin once-removed, and surrounded by Knights, both those directly in service of the crown and those Hedge Knights and Tourney Knights who flocked to the capital. It surprised few that she chose to become a Squire in 402KS, entering into her father's service.
Attack at the Tourney
In 414KS a pair of disgruntled Hedge Knights, claiming to be descendants of the Extinct House Parne of Southbay, used the events of a Tourney held in The City of Bayglen to launch an attack on King Samuel Somercrag. Sers Larris Somercrag and Xanner Vass sprang to the King's defence, but although they were successful in defeating the attackers both died in the fighting. In gratitude, King Samuel offered to knight the two squires whose knights had lain down their lives for his. Boggs Leonhart accepted this honour, but Jackar Leonine did not, choosing instead to leave the royal household and all thoughts of knighthood behind. She soon married ser Tearlach Locke, and began her new life in Riverfoot.
Riverfoot
Jackar and ser Tearlach had three children, Cadwell in 416KS, Rolf in 417KS and finally Virginie in 421KS. Like their parents before them, both Rolf and Virginie became Squires and then Knights. In 440KS, when Queen Malina Somercrag called the nation's armies to resist The Irogonie Aggression, Jackar joined her husband and his brother ser Derrick Locke at the head of their household's armies. With the other houses of The Blackbar Duchy they marched North and West across The Lamas Plains to fight alongside the plainsfolk in battles around Fallholt, Caershire and Carlsbad. At Arturberg she witnessed the devastation as teams of Giant Landsnails were driven over the castle-city's walls, leaving naught but half-digested rubble in their wake.
For their house's service in the war, Duke Croll Blackbar raised ser Derrick to Lordship over Cainfield, a holding formed from the land siezed from The Kingdom of Irogonie.
Tyon's Revolution
Thanks to Riverfoot's distance from Fairstrand, they played little part in The Revolution of 441KS. The Men-at-Arms of House Locke were most involved in the end of the war, making up a bulk of the forces present at Allerton and the siege of Haycastle. The Coming of the Blackfire and the Collapse of Riverfoot
In February 443 the mysterious inaccessible Lighthouse at the centre of Riverfoot Castle became covered in crystalline Blackfire. The darkness it emitted served to plunge the town into darkness. At the same time, whatever strange phenomenon had held The Bay of Glass still for more than four centuries was broken, and the The Mirror Sea became wracked by storms. The centre of Riverfoot was evacuated, though House Locke had long moved their dwellings to estates in the surrounding country rather than the castle, which had always had a reputation for danger with its inaccessible sections and strange disappearances.A year to the day from its appearance the Blackfire surrounding the tower shattered with a crack loud enough to be heard as far away as The City of Bayglen. It rained shards of Blackstone onto the abandoned town below. Over the following days the cliffs supporting the castle crumbled, pitching the castgle and neighbouring buildings into the sea below, destroying much of the port's docks and harbour.
The Rescue Effort
In 448KS, following the The Erruption of the Boxsart Hills, Lady Ophelia Foxworth-Hayford and the Royal Council of King Tyon I Cray launched a Rescue Effort, sending The Royal Fleet to provide aid and relocate as many of the displaced people of Hillhurst and Western Rotheval as possible. As a result, hundreds of people were brought to Riverfoot, and the previously slow process of rebuilding the Town was greatly sped up by the influx of labourers and crafters. The War for the Foxworth Secession
In the Spring of 454KS, House Foxworth of Fairstrand's violent actions against The Kingdom of Irogonie in retaliation for the abduction of their heirs by ser Katriana Foxgard led to them being declared treasoners, leading to The War For The Foxworth Secession. With the ties between House Locke and House Quay of Cainfield, one of the Foxworths' Vassals, for Lady Ophelia's part in the rescue effort that had led to the recovery of Riverfoot itself, and in solidarity with House Hayford of Haycastle, their own Duchal power, House Locke joined the Secessionist cause.
With much of the The Hayford Duchy marching South-West to cross south of Westlake, and House Bailer of Tayach Dam engaged with House Slait of The Shale, Jackar and her husband led the House Locke forces directly to The City of Bayglen itself, hoping to end the war with as little bloodshed as possible. They besieged the capital, fighting off the King's mercenaries with ease.
King Tyon I Cray called for personal combat with ser Tearlach for the fate of the city - should ser Tearlach win he would allow the King and his family to quit the city, but the city would surrender to the besiegers. Should King Tyon win, the besiegers would lift the siege.
The duel was to be fought to first blood, but neither King Tyon nor Jackar were aware of a fearsome wound ser Tearlach had taken in combat with Eyla Crane of The Ring of Knives. So it was that the first blow landed by the King ruptured something within ser Tearlach, and ended him there on the grass outside The Butcher's Gate. Jackar flew into a rage, but The Kingsguard removed Tyon from the field before she could reach him.
Jackar followed the terms set out for the duel, striking the siege camps immediately, but retaliated by beginning a spree of conquest and burning of the land surrounding the capital.
Eventually, as winter drew close, the Secessionists surrendered to the Crown. King Tyon set out The Terms of the Surrender of The Secessionist Forces, including that Jackar should be arrested and carried into exile by members of his Kingsguard. Before this could happen, however, she had spirited herself back to Riverfoot, and there boarded The Margette under Captain Brod Weaver to sail into the East, following rumours that Prince Dalran Somercrag and ser Mitchar Hespeak, her cousins-once-removed, had been sent to The Continent of Amoth when King Tyon took the throne.
The Court of the King-in-Exile
The Margette carried Jackar to Tollingbell where she confirmed the rumours of her cousins' exile, and Swore Her Sword to the service of King Dalran, the King-in-Exile.She found that King Dalran's plans for retaking the throne in The Kingdom of Somercrag were already well underway, spearheaded by ser Ashtin Phyrefenn.
