PC Common Facts - Gothenya

"A good and quick primer to Gothenya for those short on time..."

What follows is a one page list of basic information every adventurer would know about our world...     0. Your home continent is Hariel Majour. Your hometown (typically) is Bramble or some similar frontier town, such as "Vale's End" or "Last Harvest" (both similar in layout).
  • a. Magic is frowned upon in “the north” (aka all Hariel Majour).
  • b. The crown polices magic use via the officers of “Hex Chain.”
  • c. Hex Chain is an organization of magic enforcers endorsed by the crown.
  • d. Religion in the West is founded upon the “Lords of Celene” (The Gods of Gothenya), who arrived within the “holy mountain” of Mount Celene.
  • e. North of Bramble is the corrupted forest of The Dullwood and the beautiful, "elvish" grove of The Feywood.
  • f. Both Solti (high) and Kelti (wood) "elves" (actually "Vala Su'un") live in the Feywood.
  • g. The Solti kingdom is called Neishmehil.
  • 1. Angleport is the largest city in the west, and possibly the entire world.   2. The kingdom of Wyeth spans most of Hariel Majour and is the strongest power in the west.
  • a. Clarent Wyeth is the current king.
  • b. The “crown religion” is the The Zenithal.
  • c. The Faith Zenithal reveres “the six” (the six greater gods of Celene).
  • d. The 6 are: Yareuss, Ryktuss, Hindelaine, Obarane, Prix O’ Preyuss, and Chronos.
  • e. The upstart vassal known as The Barony of Rocha has openly contested the authority of the crown (more than once).
  • 3. Hairel Majour is connected to Hariel Minuta via The Throat.
  • a. There are many magic colleges in Progress & the Colleges of Wick, primary city of The Throat.
  • 4. Angleport is connected to Varuumae Corona via the Inner Sea.   5. Varuumae Corona is the “high seat of magic” in the west. It is the capital of Varuum.
  • a. It features The Tower of Light , run by The Custodians.
  • b. The Custodians are a collective of arcane historians and powerful magicians.
  • c. The Custodians serve The Grand Hassir of Varuum.
  • d. The Boorka are renegade Custodians who renounced their oaths to practice forbidden magic.
  • e. The Boorka collectively live in the city of Sage, in Hariel Minuta.
  • f. Magic is welcome in the lands of Varuum. Hex Chain (officially, at least) has no power here. Though welcome, magic items are extremely rare and difficult for mortals to manufacture (thus often originate from Mount Celene).
  • 6. Varuum is the second greatest power in the west, after the Kingdom of Wyeth.   7. The Wastes of Veric comprise the largest desert in the west, and is rather difficult to traverse.
  • a. South of Veric lies Qudra, Zarna, and several other bizarre cities.
  • b. Qudra is known for its legal slavery and fighting pits.
  • c. Zarna is the largest city south of Veric.
  • 8. The Lentokki are blood mages from the west, now living in the east on the continent Golthien.
  • a. They formed the nation of Lentokk, with its eight rulers known collectively as The Lentokki God Kings.
  • b. They are considered to be directly responsible for The Sundering.
  • c. The Sundering was a magical cataclysm that rocked Mt. Celene and cut off mortal contact with the gods. It is the primary reason magic is shunned in the north today.
  • d. The gods have either abandoned man, are sleeping... or are dead.
  • e. The gods only speak to their faithful now in dreams.
  • f. The Lentokki are thought to be mounting a “retake” of the west.
  • 9. Golthien is the largest continent on Gothenya. It is also the most unexplored.   10. The World Sea lies between Hariel (Majour & Minuta) and Golthien, separating the primary continents.
