Borea-Malun (BORE-EHY-UH MUH-LOON)

Overview

Located centrally in Lain-Lethor, the country of Borea-Malun has been the seat of power for the continent for three centuries. Its green hills and tidy cities are the jewel of the Core Lands (consisting of: Borea-Malun, Collome, Perch, and the City-States of Tarrah).    Covered in rolling green hills, Borea-Malun is a temperate and pleasant country. Very little difficult or dangerous terrain exists, making it an ideal place for nomadic tribes and homesteaders. A few tidy cities dot the landscape.   The three characteristic geographic formations of Borea-Malun are the three rivers of Twin Point to the west, the Hills of Sonder across the center, and the Chasm to the far east.

History

Borea-Malun was a mostly agricultural and undeveloped country, the breadbasket of Lain-Lethor, for many hundreds of years.   Because its city of Twin Point sat at the convergence of three rivers, it was the defacto meeting point for the Light and Dark Courts that then ruled the continent.

Population

The main inhabitants of Borea-Malun are humans, halflings, gnomes, and other more humanoid races / human hybrids. The country was once more diverse, but since the takeover of the Five-Point Authority, humanoid races have become concentrated in the area. Although the Lord of Gray himself is a centaur, other more "unsavory" races are often considered dangerous (without any logical grounds).   Primarily of note is the prejudice against Kintoki subraces, particularly in the central and eastern portions of the country. Kintoki humans, especially, are discriminated against due to political propaganda from the Five-Point Authority. Not many stay for long in these parts of Borea-Malun, and those who are forced to by circumstance have been known to dye their white hair and sever their sixth finger, hiding the scar under a pair of gloves. For this reason, gloves are outlawed in the Borea-Malun city of Fallot.

Fauna

Typical temperate beasts are found here, including small game, deer, coyotes and wildcats, and the occasional bugbear. The rich soil lends itself to a diverse base of insect life, especially in the Hills of Sonder. Some of the nomadic tribes have cuisines based around these insects.

Flora

Though the ecosystem of Borea-Malun is not fantastically diverse, the Hills of Sonder are famous for their varied wildflower blooms in the summer. Near Chasm, rare Pumicepetals grow, fed by the hot, dry air of the formation's geothermal vents and iron-rich soil.   Deciduous trees are prevalent in the Hills of Sonder and along the southern border, while the regions to the northwest begin to have the pine forests characteristic of Perch and Kintok.

Natural Resources

The natural resources of Borea-Malun are extremely rich, and are speculated to be part of the reason for the Five-Point Authority's takeover of the area three hundred years ago.   Chief among these is the three river system of Twin Point. The Little Mära (west) and the Sonder river (east) meet to make the Märalon, a long and mighty river that extends across Collome to the sea. This makes Twin Point a highly strategic trading hub, especially with its central location in Lain-Lethor. The city of Fallot, located in the Hills of Sonder, is able to make easy trade with the country's capitol using the Sonder river, and the country of Perch has a quick route as well with the Little Mära.   The rich farmland and amount of timber is also responsible for a large amount of Borea-Malun's exports. The cities of Fallot and Chasm are both made almost exclusively of domestic wood. Strangely, Twin Point is constructed entirely of white stone imported from Brïl. This is most likely a signal of power on behalf of the Five-Point Authority, using the resources of the former capitol of Borea-Malun to construct their new ruling seat. Indeed, Twin Point's original structures of wood were razed to the ground before the white stone metropolis could be built in its place.
